Yep. Tow truck came...spent 5 minutes there and charged me $65. Ripoff!

Well I do need new tires, but that wasn't the issue. Whoever went on this road before me rutted it out so deep that I was dragging the frame, tow hitch, all of it. The mud was supporting the weight of the car instead of the tires. My mom's Jeep w/ brand new tires got stuck real quick and the Ford got stuck real quick too...that was because he kept on killing the engine and couldn't keep up his momentum + his tires slicked over in no time.

PHEW! What an excursion you had! Glad you made it out okay! One reason why you don't wheel alone! I'm not being hypocritical here but Mud is a dangerous thing. Rocks usually don't move. :lmao: Glad you made it alright buddy. I'm surprised the 250 had a problem. Even though they're extremely heavy (from my experience) they've held up well in those situations.

All in all, glad everyone and everything was ok.

Also, I'm sure you know this already, but just in case, do NOT use tow straps with metal hooks. Those break very often and end up being death missile's. Go buy some D Shackles and a tow strap without hooks.

Yeah I shouldn't have gone alone... I really just wasn't thinking straight. The 250 was an older model and it was a stick so he kept on killing it. Plus it had highway tires so they slicked over immediately and he fell into some very deep ruts. And I was using a tow strap with hooks, I'll work on getting some shackles and another lengthy tow strap, I was very worried that the come along was going to snap because the cable was very old... I'll be picking one up soon.

All in all what I did was extraordinarily stupid and I ain't gonna do it again... I made lots of mistakes... I didn't tell anybody where I went, I didn't bring any recovery equipment, I probably shouldn't have been on the land even though it wasn't marked, and I definitely shouldn't have used that rusty old come along or the tow strap with hooks however it was all I had at the time.

Lessons learned.

Daaaaaannnnngg. Man you were in a deep sitch right there! If I could suggest ONE thing right now, it would be, go out, buy a tow strap without hooks, and D shackles. Thats it. We WILL NOT use tow straps with hooks. They are a danger to the drivers, and everyone around them.

But at least everyone made it out alright. You need to go get a lift and some tires! :lmao: You would have romped through that with ease! :bigok:

The current strap I have has hooks attached to it via very strong carrabeaners so I can just take them off. I'm going to go out to midwest 4x4 monday (home to bigfoot) and see what they have. I bought a come along today rated for 3 tons, that'll be staying in the car 100% of the time.

I need new tires before I get a lift, I'm probably going to seal the deal on some new BFG at's soon, I can get them slightly discounted through my work and they price match discount tire so that oughta save me some money.

Why would you get new tires before a lift? They will just look small when you install the lift.

265/75/16's won't look too small after a lift, look at CSL's 4Runner...it looks awesome!!! Plus my tires are to the point where they are a hazard. My ABS gets a hell of a work out every time it rains. You can imagine that becomes very frustrating. :bigok:

Also 285/75/16's would murder my gas mileage... I already get terrible gas mileage and can barely afford it as it is, lol

I would personally only go with a 1.5-2" lift if I was sticking with 265/75. Guess that's just me though.
