Little Wiring Advice

Finally installing a relatively easy alarm into my 87. I'm soldering all the connections and have a few more to go. I'm good with electronics and such, just looking for some experience to reduce my troubleshooting time.

I'm at the door lock / unlock portion and cannot find the lock relay which is supposed to be behind the drivers speaker. I have cruise control so I'm thinking the relay is moved. When I click the locks, it seems the relay is triggering from the passenger side, behind the ECU. I found the pink & white / brown & white wires behind the drivers speaker but they just remain in a harness. They are 12V constant.

Anyone experience this? Also, does the relay control both doors or only the passenger when you push the switch. Why do I have the feeling I'm going to have to wire the doors

Most of the time you don't need to wire into the relay, you can just splice into the wires from the controls. I set up a keyless entry/remote start last year and just spliced into the wires that come out of the drivers side door, under the kick panel by the fuses. I used some Tap-in squeeze connectors, these will tap the existing wire and let you add a wire without stripping, needing only a pliers.

Go into your local RadioShack or go to the website and ask for 64-3052.

Thanks. I actually figured it out once I got everything taken out and metered. Even though the lock relay is on the passenger side (against all install guides), the correct wires are on the drivers side and are a negative trigger. The other one that got me was the tailgate trigger. For some reason my tailgate would trigger open all the time. After some investigation, I found that the switch in the tailgate is no good. Guess I need to order one of those.

All of my connections were actually soldered. I pulled the pin out for each corresponding wire (i.e. door trigger) from its closest plug and soldered them to the crimp rung. It's working great. Just need to order that tailgate switch.
