A couple guys that I see about twice a year at local off-road events have deuce and a halfs and a lmtv. Every time I talk to them they swear by the reliability and how rugged they are, and that they are sweet, and that's true. But when you do general maintenance or if you do need to make a repair not only are the parts expensive, the time to do them is longer than usual(so if you have someone work on it the labor charge is higher). Honestly a deuce or an lmtv sound cool and have many uses, but I'd get a 3/4 ton or 1 ton long box pickup and have about the same ruggedness and reliability. Better yet get one of those cucv 1 1/4 ton chevy pickups from the 80s if you want a ranch vehicle.
