Locking doors

So I tried to look this up on here but didn't really find anything I was wondering how you can lock your doors while the truck is running and you're not in it. I go outside and let my truck warm up every morning before school and I don't really like having my doors unlocked while I'm in the house getting ready still. I tried to use my other set of keys and it didn't work and I tried locking them while the door was open and that also didn't work. I hope this isn't a dumb question haha.

I have a remote start on mine but when I start my husbands I lock it using the outside door handle. But keep in mind I don't know about there but in town here its illegal to leave it running unoccupied.

Open window. exit vehicle. Use auto close window after for is closed. Done. You are locked out of your car.
