Locking gas cap???

Ok, I have to ask....where do you live??? Is it really that bad of a neighborhood you have to worry about your gas being stolen??? Do you have that many people upset at you that you are worried about stuff being dumped into your tank??? I have lived in 2 major cities and neither of these ever crossed my mind to be concerned about. I am curious.

maybe he just wants peace of mind.

thats bullshit.

i've had my locking toyota fuel cap since day one (i bought mine back in january).

been using it everyday since and have had NO warning lights turn on.

Is it Toyota OEM?I guess it's a Canadian part, because it's not in the US parts manual.

What's the part number to see if it can be ordered? There should be a 10 digit part number on it.

I read this recently in another post ...to order Canadian parts " Call Vancouver Toyota Parts and ask for Steve (604) 530-3156. He deals with US customers ."

Super jca21!!
That number does'nt cross on the US toyota parts site though.
So , it must be a Canada only part and he'll have to call that guy in Vancouver to have it shipped.
Also , not sure about emissions difference in Canada.
That is unless he finds a Stant locking cap to work but someone tried one and it did'nt work. Threw a Check Engine Light.

PEACE OF MIND is the reason. I've owned 5 new Toyota's so far and have had some sort of locking mechanism on each fuel fill area. My neighborhood is not the concern. Its going out of town or even to Home Depot where anyone can do whatever they want. Those of you who think its silly to lock your gas tank from would be thieves or vandals. SOME DAY YOU"LL CHANGE YOUR VIEWS ON THIS SUBJECT ! Thanks for the info on Stant caps. I will buy one today.

Thats ODD, Every Toyota dealer I've called says the same thing. NO LOCKING GAS CAPS FOR THE 2010 4 Runner. If someone could supply me with a phone # of a dealer who will state otherwise I would sure appreciate it.

I picked up mine from the dealer a couple of weeks ago. It is not a Toyota part but so far after 2k miles, no problems...

i have no idea regarding which dealerships you can call because i bought my truck and gas cap up in canada.

AFAIK you will have to call someone up here. i posted the part number and harper has confirmed it is only available in Canada.

Yeah, I looked into this a while ago. You can get one shipped from Canada. You just need to find a dealer willing to ship it.

If you go to the Toyota Canada website, you can pull up that part number or find it on the accessories tab for the 2010 4Runner.

I was told by my US dealer parts department that there are different emissions requirements here in the states. Our caps have vents integrated into them and it wouldn't pass emissions without them. Not sure how much of that is BS, or if you could just throw your stock cap back on during inspection.

Jca21, does yours have vents in it? You never posted pics:biggrin2:

haha sorry dude i totally forgot.

finally got my camera back from my brother in law so pics will arrive shortly :D

Behold, the infamous Canadian locking gas cap:

Stant model #10504... my Toyota Salesman said they did they're own research on several models and this one worked fine with no check engine light issue.

Has anyone used one of these stant # 10504 caps on a 2010 4Runner ? Would like to be sure the cap does not have the problems the Toyota dealer claims?

X2

I've had mine since leaving the dealership. No problems. I find it hard to believe that the ECUs are programmed that different in Canada than the good ol' US of A, that this would throw signals and the engine light would come on. The dealership didn't have a US part number and gave you a line.

Wait, so the $40k vehicle I just ordered doesn't come with a locking gas filler door?:wow:

I don't exactly live in a dangerous area, but I'd like to at least be mildly protected from idiot high school kids.:flipoff:

I agree, That was the reason for starting this thread. I've called 14 Toyota dealers in the surrounding states and got the same answer. Toyota does not make or have a locking cap for the 2010 4 Runner. Again, if anyone has a phone # of a dealer or autoparts store that claims to have one, I'd sure like to have it.
