Locking lug nuts

Is there a preferred type of locking wheel lug nuts, or should I just go get the Autozone special? I have had bad experiences with the Autozone specials in the past so I would like to avoid that route. Any recommendations for aftermarket ones/can you still get OEM ones from Toyota?

I got a set of black Gorilla brand lug locks to go with the black Gorilla lugs I'm running. If you have factory aluminum wheels, you want to get lugs with the correct seating bevel.

These are the specs for the ones I used:

12mm x 1.50 Thread size
13/16" Hex size
1.40" Overall length
60 Degree Conical Seat

On another note, I recently got a set of lug lock defeaters (special sockets in 4 common sizes that bite the locks when spun counterclockwise) from Amazon for a Lexus my wife acquired without a lug lock key. Worked great with a 5lb hammer (to seat them well) and a breaker bar. They are supposed to work with an impact as well but I wanted to be stealthy.

So......lugs locks keep the honest people from stealing your wheels.

Exactly, they're kind of a joke. Sooo many people lose them that you can even buy bundles of various different keys to fumble through until one fits. Mechanics buy them all the time to keep in their shop since even fewer actually keep the key in their car like they should. Sometimes you don't even need a special socket, just one slightly smaller to hammer on
If someone wants your wheels, they'll take them. Plain and simple

Locking lug nuts is not about stopping theives, they're about making theives move on and target the car next to you without them. You can't expect that much security from something mass produced with the same key.

Agreed. Thieves are opportunistic. They aren't looking to draw more attention to themselves by hammering away on sockets or fumbling through a bag of em in the middle of a parking lot or in a neighborhood where they look out of place. They are more likely to hit the next car down with basic lugs. Now if you got a nice set of wheels and they specifically are looking to take them off you because of the value...they'll do it no matter what.

Yep that next car down the street won't likely have the bronze Methods and M/Ts or whatever caught their eye. That's what I tell myself I'm avoiding when I look at my ratty black plasti-dipped stock alus and filthy Patagonias.....

Same. Thats why I'm rocking stock 5 spokes with over spray from touching up armor lazily instead of FN 5 stars like the rest of the land cruisers, Tacomas, and 4runners in my area. Don't matter how nice your neighborhood is they'll snatch em up if they want em bad enough. And FN's are pricey.

There's very few things gayer than putting flashy wheels on a 4x4 anyways

Ha, I thought I was the only one with that kind of thinking.
Would I like to be rocking nice stuff? Sure I would. But, how long will those nice stuff stay on the rig? Not long in my area.
I even put some effort and repainted my 5 star plastic center caps. Someone replaced them with their ratty ones!
So, what kind of center caps are on there now? The same ratty ones with no other thievery issues.

LOL F'n people!

I've also heard our narrow-ish 5 stars called Poor Man's Beadlocks because they pinch the bead on bigger tires and help resist squirming off at low PSI. That might be BS, but hey....
