Locking wheel Lug tool missing

My 2016 4 runner TRD PRO does not have the special tool to remove the locking lug nuts. it has only been dealer serviced, not sure if it was misplaced of if I never had one. have an appointment with a dealer but of course they may want me to buy a whole new set or something??? Any suggestions. I can get them off in my shop so no worries except I won't get a flat near my shop of course...

I purchased one from my dealer. I think it was $15-20.

They are a waste anyway. I'd just tell the dealer to replace them with OE lug nuts.

If you end up with a flat and dont have the key, simply over-torque the remaining lugs and you can twist it off by hand. Now you can see why they are a waste.

when I purchased my 2016 [10 miles] , I did go through the spare tire drop and tool jacking supplied by toyota. reason is I never owned a toyota.
the paper work you received when you purchased this vehicle should include the code# for key to remove those lug nuts .

key should be in the driver rear where the jack is . my guess is you never looked in there.

They don't need your key (special tool to remove locking lug nuts) to remove the locking lugs, they use their own.

I thought my key was lost as well - like [MENTION=138935]catrains[/MENTION] it was in the driver rear where the jack is wrapped up in the pouch of tools... Toyota service dept has all the keys and they don't use ours when we drop off for service work.

Rather than buy a key, I'd put the money towards a set of oems. You only have to buy 4, right?

Murphy's Law will get you down the road some night looking for that #%*@ key. Ask me how I know.

When my wife bought her highlander, it came with the locking lugs. The dealership put the key into her glove box.

I thought we were missing our key too. Not in the glove box, center console, etc.

It was in the toolkit that has the lug wrench. It was physically tie wrapped to the wrench. Good place for it, but the dealer didn't know it was there either... until I sent them a pic. Maybe this is a new location?

Same thing happened to me. I eventually found it in the tool kit. But the dealer did eventually give me a whole new set of lugs lol

Another option is to get a normal deep socket that is similar in size and beat it on with a BFH. After each wheel lock is removed use the BFH to separate the socket from the wheel lock. Your wheel lock won't look as pretty after this but it will get it off.

Ask me why I know how this works.

Same thing happened to me. I eventually found it in the tool kit. But the dealer did eventually give me a whole new set of lugs lol

This is how they are supposed to be stored according to the manufacturer of the wheel lock set. Unfortunately the mechanics "decide" to put the key other places. It's your salesman's job to show you where the key is when you buy the vehicle. I would have them removed and have regular lugs installed. The keys always get lost.

*The dealership has a master set of keys. There are only 10 key patterns.
