Long Island, NY Help!!

Hey dudes,

I got myself into one of those situations where I should’ve measured twice, cut once. Metaphorically.

I found one of those OEM 3rd gen cargo mats (dealer option I think) on eBay for a good price. I made an offer to the guy requesting that he allow it shipped because it was listed as local pick up only. Long story short, he accepted, I paid, and then got a quote from UPS. It was 3 times the cost of the mat. Whoops.

Thing looks like this:

Anyone able to help a brother out and pick it up from the seller in Long Island, then work out me getting up to NY, or some arrangement?

The gas money & time you spend to drive up isn't worth it. Just pay the shipping. You could probably roll that thing & stick it in a 12"x12"x50" box. It has no real weight. I bet $50 shipping.

Yeah I'm leaning towards biting the bullet. If I could roll it up that'd be the miracle. The seller is not the quickest to respond and I've never heard from anyone that has one of these. Just found a different thread. Maybe B_Pilgrim or Slice of life any input on the flexibility of these things?

Those things are rare! I'd buy one if I found one locally. Good luck!

I’d bite the bullet depending on how massive the damage is cost wise. What are we talking?

There's no folding the things, they are as rigid as can be.

That was my suspicion. With UPS, once you go over 45” (the width is 53”), you’re talking big $$$. They quoted me $60 for the custom box, something like $250 for the shipment. At that point, I’m driving to NY to get this thing over shipping it.

Maybe look into shipping it via greyhound? I know that's a decent way to ship big things, or ship it via Fastenal if you have those up there.

Or rent some little car for a couple bucks for a day, drive there getting 40 MPG and skip putting the miles on the 4Runner and getting subpar gas mileage.

Well, about 800 miles, $100 in gas and a long day of driving later, we got the mat! My dad ended up riding with me, and it was some great time to spend with him. It all worked out. I wouldn’t have planned it like that, but we made it! Love the mat. Just gotta rig up some dividers to keep stuff from moving around back there.

Pics of course:

$250? That's nuts. I've had several surfboards and standup surfboards shipped to me and I can get them shipped for around $100.

Try freight shipping.

Sorry, just saw this post. Try freight shipping next time.
