Long/Misleading Lead Times on GOBI racks.

There's nothing they can do. That being said, I'm pretty certain most people who are in the market for a good rack wouldn't be swayed by the difference in quality vs. cost. The Gobi/Baja/similar will always be of higher quality.
 
Gobi Racks Still Terrible at Communication

Just a heads up anyone considering a Gobi Rack be prepared for ridiculous leads times and ZERO communication.

The least a company can do is provide some level of coms when it comes to their customers. I gave them a shot but will never be an advocate for them and will recommend people go elsewhere if looking for a roof rack. Plenty of other brands out there that are equal in quality.
 
Granted I bought my rack a few years ago 2016-17) but the wait was about 10-12 weeks back then as I recall. Got mine with the free ladder and extra hatch shocks. To me Gobi was worth it, I am very happy with fit/finish and it has stood up to a fair amount of abuse. There are more options out there now but Gobi makes a solid product, go with what worx for you and your budget/timeframe.
 
I went with a K9 all aluminum rack mainly because I wasn't willing to wait a year to have fun with my rig. Ordered the K9 and got it a week later - in stock is a beautiful thing.

If Gobi had stock on hand I probably would have bought one. But today, years later I can't help but wonder what does a 3 year old Gobi look like. Every piece of powder coated steel I've ever owned eventually rusts like hell. Seems the powder coat bubbles then flakes to reveal the rust underneath.

How are the Gobi racks holding up after a few years?

yeppers, they flat out LIE to people but people keep handing them cash. Only way they will stop LYING to people is when they start losing money.

While our experiences are of course a very small sample sizes ( and I Agree with the guy above - would never advocate for Gobi) my rack has held up very well over the course of 5 Michigan and Minnesota winters - aside from the powder coating having a a more faded look to when I first got it, no rust or powder coat failing that I have seen. *


*This is likely due to low use - not climbing on and off, putting things on it , strapping things down etc etc - so me saying "ya its held up" must be taken with a grain of salt as its rarely been used and if I was doing this build again I would not have done or greatly delayed the roof rack

I think Gobi is going to do something about their lack of communication and lead times. At least it is being addressed when you visit their website which is positive in my book.

I ordered my rack in October and don’t expect to see it at earliest late January and I’m ok with that. I think it’s a fantastic rack.

I don’t think it’s acceptable they take so long to respond. That’s not a smart business strategy.

People are always complaining about their customer service and I was wary before ordering mine.

I was quoted 16 weeks initially. A month or so in, I called and told them that I had a trip coming up, and the deadline would be cutting it close. They asked for the trip dates and I asked for a week buffer to get it installed and setup in time. They gladly obliged.

They actually gave me a month or so buffer. Rack was delivered in 12 weeks vs the 16 projected.

I even called and offered to pay the expedited fee, they refused and delivered the rack a month or so early.

I can't really complain, my experience was perfectly fine.

Have you tried emailing Weston yet? [email protected]

I emailed him a couple of weeks ago regarding the timing on my rack. He got back to me the next day.
 
FYI, they seem to be backlogged/overwhelmed with confirming orders. Placed an order on 1/7/21 with the e-mail receipt stating order is not confirmed until a GOBI representative calls to take payment info. The website and e-mail stated a minimum of 72 hours is to be given before contact. I waited until yesterday, 1/20/21, before contacting them myself. GOBI picked up right away, very friendly and everything was taken care of within 5 minutes. Now the real waiting game begins
