Not surprising to see the waiting times have not decreased since I got my rack and ladder. Gobi makes a superior product which takes some time to build, couple that with a global pandemic and the longer wait times are to be expected in my opine. And I will echo the comment that it is not just things like roof racks that are behind; shortage and delays are pretty widespread. I’ve had my Gobi for several years now and it is a solid piece of kit for our 4runners. I don’t regret buying it and while I too became agitated at the wait (16 weeks for me), once I had it installed I remembered that perfection takes time. My rigs twin for the win jajajaja.

Let’s corner a segment of the market with a ton of patents yet not expand enough to avoid a turnaround time that is almost as long as bringing a baby to term.

Four year old thread and Gobi is still not delivering on their promises :deadhorse:
I ordered a Gobi because it is the style I wanted. I went in knowing the lead times and the only “promise” they made was that there was a minimum 16 week lead time. I also knew that the reality was 20-24 weeks. I also researched every other rack on the market, and I settled on Gobi for several reasons, including that a ladder and shipping was included in the price. I wasn’t in a big hurry in needing a rack, but had I been, there are plenty of other great racks out there.
If a person ordered anything from Gobi and wasn’t aware of the “ridiculous” lead times, then they didn’t do much research so that’s on them. Blaming Gobi for making a successful product with no desire to “ramp up production “ just seems silly.
Can’t wait? Buy any of the other 2 dozen fine racks on the market.
I recall reading an earlier thread about Gobi needing to publish some spreadsheets with all the order numbers along with their approximate ship date. Seems like this would alleviate 95% of the “where’s my order” threads and also unanswered emails from Gobi.

I was told 16 weeks.
I realized after, that I needed it about a month earlier.
I called them and they were super nice. I told them when I needed it by, and they gave me a week buffer in front of that to get it on the truck itself.
At 12 weeks, it was delivered.
Sometimes it doesn't hurt to just be nice to people on the phone.
This was pre-pandemic though.

My update
First off, I did not do enough research on GOBI before I ordered, I only searched the good not the bad.
Got an automatic email from GOBI with an update:
"Hello,
We want to thank you for hanging in there with us. 2020 was a year like no other, and now we are dealing with the ripple effects. To say that we are facing challenges daily is quite the understatement. One of the primary challenges is material shortages, including steel and other essential components to our manufacturing process. This has caused considerable delays in our lead times.
The Executive Director at Coalition of American Metal Manufacturers and Users, Paul Nathanson, sums the situation up well. "Our members have been reporting that they have never seen such chaos in the steel market. When the pandemic started, domestic steel mills idled furnaces and they have been slow in ramping up production - despite a recovery in demand for cars and trucks, appliances, and other steel products. The steel shortage is having major implications for our industry that has already been struggling from previous delays”.
Through extensive research and communication within the industry, it is apparent we will be facing this challenge for the foreseeable future.
We would like to personally apologize for the unexpected delays. Please know we are working nearly around the clock to deliver for our customers as soon as humanly possible. Quality has no shortcuts, and we are committed to overcoming these challenges without sacrificing the principles that GOBI Racks was founded on.
We want to remind you we DO NOT take payment, nor a deposit, until your order is ready to ship. As off-roaders and adventurers ourselves, we understand the frustration this causes, and we sincerely thank you for hanging in there with us. We do not have an exact ETA for the shipment of your rack as timeframes are constantly changing depending on welders, material, and other components. We will reach out once your order has been assigned to a welder, ready to ship, and has shipped.
Due to the high volume of daily inquiries, a response may be delayed as we address each request individually. As a friendly reminder, we will be closed from July 5th through July 9th for maintenance repair and system updates. Thank you again for your patience and support. We cannot wait to have you GOBI equipped."
My order was confirmed on Mar 24. So I thought ok this is going to be atleast the 18 weeks that they say on a lead time. Then I checked the website and it now says 24 weeks min on orders. At no point was I told that the minimum lead time was changed to 24 weeks.
I know this is my own fault for not doing better research on a company. I will live with that and at the same time I am looking for other options. Also I will note that I was never told how long it could take, in theory it could be 2 years until I receive it and no one is at fault.

These ridiculously long wait times are why I'm looking somewhere else now. I've had sliders & skids built (and a custom made tire carrier nearing completion), coated, and shipped in a fraction of the time.

My wife ordered my rack in March of 2020, just as COVID was starting to bite. The rack showed up the last week of December 2020, so it was something like 40 weeks from order until it showed up in my driveway. The communication from them was virtually non-existent, save a generic message in the fall apologizing for the lack of communication. I guess I can give them a break with regards to the manufacturing delays since things were a mess during COVID, but the lack of communication really is unacceptable. I've also never received the "free" backpack that was (and still is) being offered. They indicated it was a separate shipment, but it never showed up and Gobi has ignored all my requests for a status update.
[update 7/3/2021: I sent a message to the email on my original invoice, and Gobi responded that the backpacks were backordered. They added that they would get back to me in 6 to 8 weeks to let me know about their availability.]

Between 25 - 27 weeks depending on your perspective. They've even updated their website to state MINIMUM 24-28-week lead time instead of MINIMUM 16 weeks :clap2:

I am selling a complete stealth rack and ladder for the 5th gen. no waiting North of Atlanta. Pics in my build thread. Rack has custom light mounts all the way around. 2 side and 2 rear. Along with front for a light bar.

I was just in PA it’s why my wife’s car is now kaput as a semi ran me off the road. Anyways depending where your at I’m about 9 hours from Chambersburg. Would be willing to drive about 4 hours to meet if really interested. But $50 is a deal I can refuse given there about $1800 new.
I'd be interested in that stealth if it's still available. I'll be driving through Atlanta in 3 weeks.
