Long/Misleading Lead Times on GOBI racks.

I don't have any Gobi stuff on my rig and, based on what I am seeing in this thread, never will.
Every company is struggling to get their hands on the raw materials to make their product. Every company is struggling to get help to fabricate, ship and assemble their products. So you can essentially consider the playing field level in those regards. The only important thing left in the process is the customer service and fulfillment aspects.
Not every other company has a 17 page (and growing) forum post about how they don't communicate and provide their paying customers with misleading or outright false information about delivery.
Sherpa and C4 are 2 examples that come to mind and I have worked with. Remember - same struggles with help and material. Sherpa - very communicative, hell, you don't even need to leave this forum to talk with them - they post here. C4 - pick up the phone and someone answers and you can talk to them. If the Gobi products are superior in any way to Sherpa and C4 I am hard pressed to imagine how because they both make great products.
Complete mystery how they are still in business.

Not really.
- They produce a unique design that's sought after by consumers.
- The product is quality
- Charged only when product ships
- Purely a luxury item that is not essential like medicine

Strongly agree - just like the others.
Can't speak to that but definitely appreciate your perspective. Like I said, I have none of their gear but it looks like good quality - just not better quality than some of the other offerings which you can get without all this nonsense.
I suspect the market will eventually have it's way with them.

It's a made to order item.
People continue to buy them because the end product is great. It has a unique look and it's very functional.
The timeline they give you for completion is a MINIMUM ESTIMATE. They are not giving you an exact date.
Educated consumers know the lead times before buying.
Uneducated consumers start calling and wondering where their racks are before the minimum estimated lead time.
Could they do a better job of communicating? Absolutely.
As for me, I knew the lead times going in and didn't need someone to hold my hand through the process. I got mine right around the time I expected (6 months).

None of GOBI's items should be made to order. They have a catalogue. Most businesses could predict demand. They're good at making a product, but garbage at business. Even worse at customer service. If they didn't make the least offensive looking ladder I would never have put up with them.

In other words, I have no problem separating a company from it's products.
GOBI makes a nice rack. Though their customer service, manufacturing pipeline and overly-litigious abuse of patents are all garbage. We see the same with Snap-on. Good tools; shitty company.

When I purchased mine, I just placed the order and did not think about it. Took about 6-7 weeks but if it would’ve been longer, it would have been fine. It’s not like my car can’t drive without it. There are other brands of racks with immediate availability to choose from. I think if you’re looking into a Gobi, you should not be upset if it takes longer than expected. They make it clear on their site that the lead times are long. I’m glad I got my rack, definitely worth the wait.

No worries. I just found one on marketplace and bought it. Think I got a decent deal at $900. Came with the shovel and axe mounts as well.

Crazy Im seeing this thread today. I noticed Gobi was at Expo west and prior to talking with them about racks on camera I asked about lead times. They told me they were 16-20wks out. For the life of me I cant understand why a company would demo products at a show and have such long wait times.
What a crock of a line from them. :sniper:

Crazy to think in the 4 years since this thread was created - Nothing has changed.
In 17 I needed a rack, saw this thread and confirmed I'd blow out an entire half year/summer waiting for a powder coated tubular rack (future rust) - really nothing special about it.
When I drive past another rig and see one, I always wonder how long they waited and why?
There's a lot of other options out there- in steel and aluminum.
