Long time lurker with a few questions

Long time lurker, first time poster,
I am in the market for a new vehicle within the next few months. I have it pretty much narrowed down to the Tacoma and 4Runner. I am looking at the base SR5 4x4. I can't afford the leather upgrade and I had a question about the cloth seats in the base SR5. My sister has a 2010 that has the power seat with high-contrast fabric (I like the fabric pretty well). On Toyota.com, it only talks about the high-contrast fabric when you get the power seat option. So is the fabric in the BASE, like that velour(sp?) fabric or is the higher quality seat fabric?

PS: I tried to search but I didn't find an answer.

HI! my dad is a Kansas Alum. Anyway, to answer your question. I think the seats are either 2 options. The cloth seats, or the "premium package" which comes with leather. I don't think you will have to worry about your SR5 coming with velour. That would just soak up water. Next step will be going to the dealer and checking it out, and then buying one.

There is another option but that is on the trail only model.

Rock, Chalk. Thank you for the quick reply. I wouldn't think a ~$30,000 vehicle would come with that cheap fabric. My dealer doesn't have any SR5s with fabric, so I can only go off of my sisters 2010. I really like her SUV, but I have to decide if I want an SUV or truck.

PS: I wish I could afford the TE (They look just plain mean!), but alas I cannot.

There's actually 3 options for the SR5's not 2. I'm sure people on here can comment more on the difference between the first 2.I think the fabric is different between them.

Is the fabric the same on the first two? Or is it the actual "shape" of the seats that makes them "Sport". As in, the sport having higher bolsters, etc.

It also sucks now with the 2011s, because you get stuck with the 3rd row seats if you get any of the upgrade packages.

which upgrade packages are you referring to? I've got a 2011 SR5 with the premium package, (black leather) and it did NOT come with a 3rd row.

29500 could happen, it depends on what you get with it. Remember to shop around to different dealers and use one dealers price as a bargaining chip with another dealer, i had one dealer tell me their "sales" price was like 35 and change, i then got mine for 3,000 less at another dealer and the one i bought had more stuff on it.

Any of the Convenience Packages going up to the leather packages, all have the 3rd row. So if you don't get leather, you are forced into the 3rd row.

When it comes time to buy I am just going to send out emails to the dealers within ~100 miles and work them against each other.

Jayhawk, that was the main thing we struggled with deciding when purchasing our 5th gen - whether or not to get leather seats vs. cloth. We had never wanted or had leather seats before we bought the Jeep Liberty that we traded for our 4runner. Leather wasn't even a priority on that vehicle but it was part of an option package that included a lot of other stuff we did want. Once we decided on a SR5, leather was again an option but, for us, it was a dealer installed option, so we didn't have to get a 3rd row seat to get it. Well, we ended up not getting it at all because the cloth seats are nice looking, comfortable, and the fabric appears to be very tuff and durable. Not that soft cloth velour type stuff you might find in a highlander or corolla or something like that. I think you'd be happy with the cloth, especially if you are trying to stay within a budget. But, just know that your dealer likely has a resource available to install factory equiv or better leather on the existing seats without having to buy it already installed with a required 3rd row seat. If we wanted, our dealer was going to let us add it for the same cost that would have been on the window sticker had we chosen one that already had leather.

It's amazing that Toyota offers so many different interiors. On our Canadian 2011 4X4 SR5 (Canadian SR5's only come in 4X4) comes with this very nice black/grey/copper fabric seat covers. They appear to be of a much higher quality than you find on other Toyota products.

You sure about this? According to Toyota.com, 3rd row is an option to any seating type. You may have to order/wait to get it.

To answer your question about the fabric, I am almost 100% certain that the base model and the "sport" fabric are indentical. The difference is as Harper posted, the 6 way vs. the 8 way driver seat, and also the layout of the fabric. The base model just has the design on the middle of the seats, while the "sport fabric" covers part of the bolster at the top of the seat as well as the middle.

Overall, the look of the seats is almost identical on the two cloth options. If you look on ebay at the auctions, you can often see the difference. Or google pics of the SR5 package.
