Long tread life with Michelin CT

Others have said the same. I'm really impressed with the tread wear I'm seeing. At 20,000 miles I have 10/32" tread (12/32" new) evenly across each tire. I have been running 35psi and have recently bumped it to 38psi.

Obviously, I drive conservatively to make this possible. Also, a 2wd V-6 SR-5 makes for lower vehicle weight.

Is it the particular tire or do 4Runners in general get good tread life?

I have heard different stories on Cross Terrians. Some threads here say the Michelin LTX hold up better than cross terrians. At one tire store the salesmen said they are getting cross terrians going bad at 20,000 miles. When I bought my cross terrians I notice they had a tread wear rating of 700 and the LTX M/S were 500.

I can tell you that my tires now have 36,000 miles on them and they seem fine. Not quite new, but no bad spots and even wear and not wear at that. Mean while a friend with a SUV with the same miles on his tires are about to give up, he needs a new set. I think they were a cheap set of tires. Sometimes it pays to get better tires.

I put my set on at 16,000 miles and now I'm at 42,000 and they still have plenty of tread left. So, 26,000 miles so far...

I've heard the LTX's have better treadwear but don't ride as soft as the CT's do. I plan on sticking to the CT's since they've been a good all around tire.

We put CT's on our prev 3rd gen and have them on our '03 and absolutely love them. We'll probably be able to go 75-80k miles on them at this rate.

Aren't they rated at 35 PSI max? It seems like a lot of guys are running higher than the rated pressures lately but maybe I missed why?

I just checked the CT tire and you're absolutely right about the 35 psi. Thanks for pointing this out.

The vehicle came from the dealer aired up to 43 psi! I'm guessing that the 4Runners are aired up high in Japan because these will be sitting for a while in transit.

I will continue to run 38 psi and see if the tires will continue to wear uniformly across the tread. The road is felt a bit more firmly but the 4runner suspension is so nice. I'm also getting some pretty good mpg numbers.

I've got 86K on mine and they still have a lot of tread left. I love them!

CTs are dooope! I keep my tire pressure at 35psi and grips like no other....better than my dunlops.

I've got 28.6k on my CT's and there are great, ride quiet and with the computer turned off are great for sliding around on dirt roads. They look like new, I run 36psi and do 5 tire rotations.

My CTs came from the dealer with 43psi, they ride and handle great, but I wonder if I should air 'em down a little.
We'll see how they handle snow pretty quick here.

Mine are at 45,000 and still going strong. I probably have another 45,000 based on the treadwear, which only seems about half worn.

Of course, the CT's that come stock on the Runner have a different tread pattern than the tires that are shown in pics at Tire Rack and at Michelin's web site. The shoulder blocks on the Runner's CT's are open, which theoretically would give better hydroplane resistance...and I think they look better as well.

Maybe that has something to do with the treadwear, I don't know. All I know is that the CT is a damn good tire.

Yeah, Ive noticed that. Wonder why that is. I like the ones that come on the 4R much much better. The shoulder of the tire is open, where the one on tire rack is solid.
