Longer rear mud flaps

Hi Fellows,
I'm just wondering if anyone has ever put on longer mud flaps on the rear tires.
Since I drive a lot on muddy - gravel roads it would help to keep the dirt off the motorcycle carrier and trailers I use often.
I have the Toytec ultimate lift and 32" tires on the truck. I think 3 - 4" longer
mud flaps would help my problem.
Any one who has done this?? You think it would look stupid ??

Seriously, tell me about it. I towed my duck boat this year for the first time on a muddy road and WOW...It coated the entire rear half of my boat in mud! I only have 1" or so life w/ my FJ sprins, but it's enough that I need longer mud flaps too!
 
I've been looking for longer ones, but haven't found anything on the net.
I contacted my local Toyota dealer and asked them if there is anything available, maybe one of a Tacoma would fit but I don't know yet..
 
In the past, not on my 4runner, I have purchased the oversize flat black ones and cut them to fit my cars, you can mount them infront of the existing ones and in some cases instead of them. On my wifes Honda Accord we run steel wheels and snow tires in the winter and I install the mudflaps just for the winter salt and slush spray. They stick out way to far and hang down way to low, infact they scrape when the suspension compresses but they keep her car significantly cleaner.

That's kinda what I'm thinking too. So far nothing has turned up that would fit. I think I will just be bolting or riveting something on.

I would bet you could use some ideas from here:

Years ago, I went to the local hardware store, bought some stainless steel sheets, drilled holes in it that matched what was in my car at the time, and it worked ...

you might could make some that way (if you wanted them black maybe you could coat them with something like undercoating or ?)

then ADD the rubber (like in the about PDF file) to whatever size you want

I tried doing a quick search and didn't find longer mud flaps that fit our vehicles ....

I know they make mud flap extensions for some trucks ... just a thought anyway

A guy I ride with picked up a Butaco last year, cool little bike!

Right now I have the stock mud flaps.
The Jao's Ive seen, but I think it's just a little bit overprices and I'm not crazy
about the looks of them.
I have some 1/4" black rubber sheets at my shop and I think I'll be putting that on right in front of the existing mudflap. That stuff is quite indestructible.
I'll put up a picture when I'm done- right now I'm sick as a dog and just hanging around at home.

Good thread! If anybody finds anything let us know! I don't mind the Husky's except for the chrome at the bottom. I wonder if the Husky molded universal flaps would work?

I have ordered these Husky mudflaps and I'm sure I can make that work.
JC Whitney sells them for $42,--. I tried to order it from a local store here in Ontario - They wanted $ 100,-- for it :jaw drop:- so I did the web-order.
I tried that rubber, I had mentioned... Well it's a bit too soft even with a 1/4" thick - still too floppy..

Solved

Here it is.
Thanks to 4RNNR for pointing out the Husky's Universal fit.!!
I like how the project ended up.
They are now almost 5" longer going down.
I still have more than 8" clearance from the ground.
I'm hoping that will do a good job keeping my trailers and bikes a lot cleaner.
I'm sure it will help.

excellent, I've never used them, so glad they worked out !

I can't quite tell ffrom the pics- are those riveted ? bolted ? screwed together ?
 
I just wanted to say nice trials bike, not too many riders around anymroe; my pop took me to a few competitions when i was a kid, very cool stuff.

I used one of the original screws - meaning it goes through the new one, the original one and into the bumper. The other 4 are stainless steel 1/4 inch pan head machine screws with the acorn nuts in the back. These are just through the original and the new one.
I'm quite sure it will hold up to what I'm using the 4Runner for.

Trials is fun - you guys should try it!
I've been riding for 21 years.
