These OEM lenses are also plastic. I wont think too hard about plastic lenses.

Huh? Your truck may have 300k on it. Putting headlights on it today and you're expecting it to go another 300? ...Im not following
Talking about them fading and turning yellow.
I'm saying the durability of the plastic will never compare to glass. Eventually plastic WILL get cloudy and glass will not. Not to mention the quality control on the UV coating for the BMW lamps is probably much better than the chinese knock off lamps, assuming they have any at all!

Thanks, she's not all that clean paint wise, the picture is deceiving.
Oic I've heard that before but never actually seen it.
My glass headlights on the 4runnerhave been replaced due to cracking. The plastic bmw lenses were polished. II suppose if in a few years they get cloudy, and I still own the 4runner, I can replace the plastic with some eBay glass.

I also fall into the "who cares if it's plastic or glass" cateogory. It takes an hour and $15 to bring plastic lenses back to new. Do that every 5 years or so doesn't seem like too much trouble to me.

Are you using the 3m kit to get the 5 year interval? If so, I might have to try that. I've used rubbing compound/wax in the past and it turned out great, but only lasted a couple of months before it started to fade again...

Looks like they are coming out of Vladivostock Russia so they must be the same as Brilliant bought.....
No doubt these are made somewhere in Asia though. Wish I could find the manufacturer and I would import some!

My "superior" glass headlights on my 4Runner have cracks and chips. Same thing with my glass ones on my Pickup.
My "inferior" plastic housing on my Altima after 100k miles look brand new. Granted they are better quality from the factory than cheapo Honda Civic headlights though.

Honda's are actually high quality. I would put them over Nissan any day for quality and reliablity. For fun I put Nissan way over Honda. Except that new turbo Civic Type R is pretty tempting.

The "kit" doesn't really matter. I have used that 3M kit, but basically all you need is varying degrees of wet sand paper (start rough and move to fine) and polishing compound.

Well, we have a '99 BMW 323i e36 'vert in the family (oddly enough, built the same month as the 4Runner--3/99) and the factory plastic is semi-opaque yellow and looks like it has leprosy where that high quality coating is dissolving. The factory glass on the 4Runner still looks great. A restore is on the agenda for the 'vert.
Didn't realize you had to go as far as sanding, maybe that's why my "repair" didn't last as long.
