Why?? What is the fascination about this? That looks like another money pit. I rather get those old Suzuki Samuri or something that is capable off road with tons of aftermarket support.

I don't need no stinkin' support! Don't you think I would have thought about that?
This question is old as time, and the answers are myriad.
I've had many toyota's and I want to play with stance on this one. I'm thinking 13 or 14X8 Rims with stretched tires. maybe some overflares. corolla suspension. and like I mentioned; a mildly built 4AC swapped in which should up it ~25hp+.
car-$300
4AC-$70
complete 4AC rebuild kit w/pistons-$200
I've got tools and a lift.
honestly this project is going to curb my money drain into the 4Runner there. I'm way too far into that thing...because it's well supported!

..and an aside; it's all about platforms. samurais are a lame platform. any year toyota mini will out-anything those any day. and I've had a dozen mini's already. I need to do something totally out of the box to satisfy my mind. I've been perusing stanceworks and speedhunters and bushidocodewordpress too much....

nice terc wagon. Did it come with the inclinator in it? and the plaid looking seats? i know some people over on tercelonline.com that have the 4wd tercs...they look like a fun weekender toy to beat around with...or just an awesome beater to work

I dig it. I think your build is all wrong though - what you want in there is a 7MGTE, 31 inch allterrains, and a good slider/skidplate package. :D

What would be baller is if a silvertop 4AGE would fit in there...now that would be an awesome build...but i dont know if you could get a 4wd transfer case to hook up to that and make it work...but a fresh 4AC should be preppier than that little thing thats in there right now

Thanks for the support! I looked into the 4AG option for a while.. that'd put power up to ~190 which is 100hp+ over stock. However the 4AG is not a direct fit, it would require more fabrication than I want to put into it for now. I understand 100hp is about the limit of these little 4WD trannys anyway so the 4AC is still within limit.
It does not have the inclinometer:( but it does have cool plaid seats. It's rough to be sure, a vacuum and a sander will go far with this one.
There's really no comparing this to an ae86 since it's FWD but a lot of the corolla parts are interchangeable and I'm thinking of just putting a hydraulic E-brake in for power sliding fun.
I realize the obviousness to lifting this but just because it's 4WD doesn't mean you have to go up. Nobody lifts audi's.... know what I mean?
I have a friend who wraps cars so maybe a nasty 80's paint scheme is in order:)
"awesome beater" is exactly what i'm going for.

You'll have fun with it, but its no AE86
:thumb3: All i thought of instantly was the commercial break of the show with the music and the guy yelling "Initial D"

That's pretty cool. That should be some fun.

I always wanted the older Honda Civic 4wd wagon!! But they are all rotted to hell here in CT if you can find any also!

anyone know where I can find these rims? Specifically the deep dish rears.

custom made?
also; a paint scheme I came across that I think would be fitting:

You have some great ideas, and a good platform to start with as you can only go up from what you towed home.

Its like that Movie "Hot Tub Time Machine" Mid 80's all over again.

Make it happen, I can't wait to read this build.

Enjoy

update

so i'm now $750 total into this licensed/registered vehicle. I had to do the headgasket 3x/head-rebuild before I got it to seal. At which point it was burning oil on cylinder 1 becuase of worn rings/low compression.
I borrowed it to my friend a few days ago and it ran out of oil. Now it has a rod knock.
So even though my wife wants me to get rid of it, i'm still in high spirits.
I played around with paint and came up with these mock-ups:

This gave me encouragement. So I'm contemplating a 4AG with a 5 speed and just going RWD with it. Anyone else have any good ideas for this little lumpy?
I know this is in contrast to the only selling point of the car being the 4wd.. but...
I'm open to suggestions, since it's just kind of dead...
also the $70 4AC was a bust. so short of rebuilding this one it is a good candidate for some heresy.

to even do anything to this, is to put the crazy tall muffler on it... slam it with some jap rims and that's about it. any more, you could of put that $ into the yota.
