Looked as this truck today, need thoughts

Well you wont find one with less miles on it thats for sure. I looked for a solid month before i could find a runner with under 200k. Ended up with a 2001 sr5 with 144,000 one owner.

Yep, he may have even gone far enough as to wire wheel it to get rid of a bunch of crap.




Take it to a BODY shop and a Mechanic before you consider buying it. Or... if you are feeling froggy bring a screwdriver and a hammer and use the hammer and the screwdriver as a punch. You'll find soft spots on the frame that way. If it dimples or penetrates the frame, you know whats up.

I never buy a vehicle without my mechanic looking at it first. If I lived in a rust belt or was buying a vehicle that may have came from one I would definitely have a body shop check out the frame. It might be money lost if it doesnt check out, but a lot less money lost if you buy it and the thing collapses on you when you go wheeling or just driving down the road.

That said aside, the price seems super high anyways even in great condition.

Well you can clearly tell he sprayed painted the frame. Because there is black on the underbody of the truck. So right there it ain't worth what he is asking. I mean, you will have to get under and wire wheel all the rust of. Rest is up to you.

Wow! That's pretty high... though it does have some low miles for sure (positive it's not rebuilt??) Also looks like someone was trying to hide some rusting with some good ole spray paint...

I called Nick on Saturday actually about that one, he had a few people coming to look at it this past weekend and if it didn't sell he was going to let me know today. So we'll see how that goes.

I know these are stout trucks, but I have a hard time buying something with over 200,000 miles. I don't care if it's a Toyota, Ford, GM etc.

Try this... Drive all vehicles with the options you must have, don't worry/think about miles, and see for yourself the drive of each after the 5th truck you'll have a good understanding of how a 3rd Gen should feel like. Then go find your diamond in the rough.

Please drive as many as you can... Chances are you'll learn something different on each 4runner that you'll want to look for on the next.
