Lookin to buy 99 SR5 3.4L auto

Hey im lookin at a '99 SR5 with the 3.4L automatic. The car has had one owner and is in excellent condition, the only problem is the wheels have a bit of corrosion. It has 102K and I got the guy down to $7,100, is this a good deal?

4WD or 2WD?

From a dealer or owner? Does it have maintenance records? Timing belt/water pump done? Clean carfax? Check VIN tags on all body panels?

I know people have picked up 99-00 Limiteds for ~$8000, so keep an eye out for that. Also, check to see if there is a button to the left of the steering wheel that says "RR REAR DIFF". That's the rear locker, which is desireable.

But if it rides great, all of the above checks out, and you like it, then why not? The wheel corrosion is not a big issue. You can either buy other ones on craigslist or re-paint those. Pretty simple.

timing belt and waterpump just done?

Belt should have been done around 90K miles and waterpump typically done at same time.

Rear axle seals are likely going to fail soon if not already done...

Hey that looks like mine without the bigger fender flares. I'd say do it if it's 4wd and has a diff lock, mine doesn't but just know that a black vehicle is difficult to keep clean but when it's clean it looks so sweet :bigok:

Thanks for the replies, I bought it for $7100 it is 4WD but doesn't have the rear diff lock. Any suggestions on what to use to paint the wheels? Also, what kind of undercoat works good?

Not sure where you are located, but around here, there are two companies that can restore wheels from curb rash and tarnishes. One of the dentless paint repair places here does it. You might check around to see if there are any companies in your area that can do that.

Just painted my wheels using Dupli-color wheel paint. Available at any auto parts store. Just make sure to do good prep work, which means sanding, priming, etc.
