Looking at a 1990. What do i need to know?

I am looking at a 1990 4x4 V6/auto. It has 243K miles now
it had Timing belt, complete tune up, all belts, all hoses, alternator and water pump replaced at 188k miles.

I have read about the head gasket recall I am waiting for the vin to see if it has been done. It is the original owner too.

There's also a recall on the steering relay rod.

I had a problem with the automatic 4wd once.

It was after the Toyota dealer replaced the headgasket under warranty and it worked before I brought it in so they fixed it up for free.

They told me that moisture got into the neumatic hoses and all they had to do was disconnect the hose(s) and blow them out with compressed air.

Make sure to test the 4wd when you test the vehicle.

Also make sure the back window works. a lot of the earlier 4Runners have the problem where the relays in the rear window module burn out making the rear window inoperable (the window will go up but won't come down and vise versa). Which means you will not be able to open the rear hatch. After going through about 4 second hand modules I decided to get my mechanic to make up a modified module full of relays so I could actually use the back of my 4WD properly. The only down side to doing this is it completely bypasses all the emergency security function.
