Determined that a 4runner is the car of choice but want to make sure getting a good deal.. Looking at a 2006 limited dark grey no nav but with tow package and 42k on the clock. Off a lease and 1 owner..

Asking 26 what do you guys think is reality? From a dealer and certified pre-owned

Not sure how much more a limited is worth but I purchased my 08 with 25K miles for 21K back in February this year. From a dealer and certified pre-owned as well.

I paid 29k for my '07 V8 4x4 Limited with nav and 15k miles...sounds like you could get a better deal if you keep looking. Also certified used from my local Toyota dealer...

They list it at 26K and won't budge anymore from 25K? I'd probably keep looking. Have you tried looking at Edmunds for the pricing in your area? There's debate about how accurate it really is, but it'll give you an idea.

Under some pressure I guess because i want to get it before the MA sales tax hike from 5% to 6.25% I think 25k is absurd...

If anyone see's one let me know... I am having a hell of a time.. I want a V6 and leather would be preferred.. Love to get the hood scoop as well.. Prefer silver or dark grey.. No white but black possible although not preferred.

I got my 07 SE V8 in January 08 brand new for 25500 + TTL. Came to lie 29k when all said and done.

See, that is what i am thinking, for a few grand more you get a brand new Runnah and you will be a bit better off since they are not exactly flying off the lots - though they are somewhat hard to come by.

The Worcester/Boston area has tons of Toyota dealerships. If you head down Route 9 a bit more you will find a dealer in Northborough I think, pluss Harr Toyota in Worcester, and Herb Chambers in Auburn. You could also hit up IRA, Acton Toyota (now Littleton Toyota), or Pride on the Auto Mile. Yeah they are all drives, but if you are going to get f@cked hard by a dealer on a used Runner you might be better off.

I bought mine from Harr in Worcester and it was a fairly painless experience. I'd say look around.

I feel your pain about the nitwits in Boston and their stupid tax increase, but you would be better off looking elsewhere or walking in with a pre-approved check and say "Look, I'll write the check right now and you'll have a sale or you can keep the truck for however long it takes to sell it."

Research the price on Kelly Blue Book, Edmunds, and "Black Book" (which I have found to be a more reliable site personally).

Question: Are you paying cash for the deal? If not, do you have your financing lined up and ready to go, like a cash buyer? If so, I'd be willing to bet that if you walked in there with a check in your hands for the $23k (all-in) and said "it's your job to not let me take this back", they'd probably do the deal, especially right now at the end of the month.

The past three cars that I've bought, I did like this via an auto loan through USAA. Once approved, they either send you a blank bank check, or give you an account number on their website that you simply log in to, fill out where to wire the money, and it's done. I've gotten great deals (more than I thought I could actually) for the past 3 cars I've done this with, including our 4runner which I bought in mid 2007 with 52k miles for just shy of $20k. I bought my current Lexus, with 56k miles, for in the $12k's - All-in. They were asking $25k for the 4runner, $17.9k for the Lexus.

Funny thing, when you put the cash right on their desk. The 4runner - I said "somebody's going to get this check from me today, for a V8 4runner. I'm looking at 3, and you're my first stop. It's up to you if I make it to the second stop". Car was sold in 15 minutes. I had to say a few "this IS my only offer". That was in mid 2007, when things weren't nearly as bad as they are now!

The Lexus - I said close to the same thing, except I didn't seclude my selection to just the GS series "aren't a lot around worth buying". I said "I'm buying a car today with this check. I've got 4 I'm looking at. You're my first stop, here's my offer "wrote it on a sticky note attached to the front of the blank check". It's you're call. Initially, they barked back. But, wouldn't you know it, as I was driving away in my then-current car, my cell phone rang with the salesman asking me to come back and pick up my new car.

However, I have read quite a few articles recently about, of all friggin' things, a short supply of SUV's on the market. The articles are saying that a lot of the SUV's that were traded in last summer when gas was north of $4, were actually shipped out of the country for sale. And now, with gas prices in the $2's, folks are starting to second guess their Honda Civic's as the "family" car, and are wanting to get thier SUV's back. But, many are looking at the smaller SUVs, like the Rav4's and such. But, the 4runner was one of the only SUV's that weren't really traded in during that timeframe. I've read articles of frustration from Ford & Chevy dealers saying "they simply shut down the plants that made many of these suv's, and I can't get my hands on what some of my customers are now asking me for". This is putting a somewhat "shadow" premium on certain SUV's, like the 4runner. But, it's all market specific "location" driven, too. Up where you are, given the hard winters, I'd be hard pressed to think you guys have a shortage of SUV's around. But, that demand generator could be doing just that actually...driving the Civic's back to the 4x4's before another winter season hits.

I went by the Worcester dealer who had not a single 4Runner on the lot, new or used a litttle over a week ago. They had a few RAVs and a couple of Highlanders (the Highlanders seem to be a rather popular vehicle lately as I have seen many of them.)

Problem with the dealer sites is they list not only what is on the lot, but what is able to be gobbled up that is in the port or coming very soon.

That being said, I just did a search on the net at Toyota of Keene, NH ( http://www.toyotakeene.com/used-inv...bd2ff7f00000100e0cdc9efb7f001&useHistory=true ) with a similar mileage Limited for $22K. You telling me that 1 year is going to get you $5,000 more?

They are out of their freaking mind at Bernardi. Especially since they list a 2006 Sport with 48,000 for $19,000.

I found these at Westborough Toyota just down Route 9 from Bernardi.......

Just call another dealership and ask one of the used car salemen "con them" into giving you the figure of a similar 4runner in the "black book"...aka...auction rate book they use to value your trade in "the lowballer". That'll give you a basis to use. That's what a lot of them do anyway. They apply the blackbook value to the trade, and the kbb retail value to their car....the "spread".
