I'm going to be in San Diego looking at a 1st generation tomorrow.

Looks fairly clean, wondering if there are any 1st generation enthusiasts that are bored this weekend and want to help out a new member with checking out a potential purchase?

I can't meet you at the truck but if you post some pictures of the frame, interior ect. I can help you out on here. Also service history is important but either way expect that it's gonna need work and it's going to take up a lot of your time. If you have the time, space, and know how to wrench on it, go for it if the price is right

How did it go??

I was on the hunt for a 1st gen - wanted one REALLY bad... but a decent one wasn't in my price range and I couldn't force myself to fork out a bunch of money for an 80's 4R. I ended up getting a 2nd gen for less than a grand.

You've probably already looked at it but I would definitely check for frame damage.. one I looked at in North County looked good in pictures but the frame was completely rusted because it came from Ohio and the road salts destroyed it.
