Looking at a T4R limited with Nav

So I finally found a Limited, V8 4Runner with Nav. It is a 2006 with 37k miles for $25,8xx. I wanted to get your input on buying it from a dealer other than a Toyota dealership. Luckily it isn't a fly by night but a Mazda dealer. Also, do I need to be aware of anything with a V8 AWD 4runner? I already know to look out for the rear air suspension - this doesnt have it. Any cons on the factory nav? I like it for safety reasons - back up cam. Is it DVD based?

Sorry for all the questions. I currently drive a Tahoe Z71 and am ready for the change! Thanks in advance.

You should be able to get them to come down on that price, esp since there a non toyota dealer. That would be about the price, on the high end, that you would expect to pay from a yota dealer, which would more than likely have an extended warranty tacked on to it.

06 is a good year and 37k is not that many miles for a toyota. Have them show you the carfax if you havent already. The previous owner should have already performed the 30k mile service which was a big one.

I shopped for 06 limiteds and sports for about 7mo. I would say you should be able to get them in the upper 24's, maybe low 25's since it has nav. I ended up buying an 07 sport 4wd, leather, 18k miles for $23.

Thanks for the heads up about the 30k service. I have seen the carfax and it is a one owner not from a fleet. For some reason I have seen many a fleet 4runner showing up.

with the JBL sound system, you're going to lose storage space as the subwoofer replaces a sizeable bin to store jumper cables, etc. That's the only thing I don't like about my limited.

The Nav is very good, but VERY annoying b/c its the default screen. So when you start the truck, Nav, come out of reverse, Nav, take or make a phone call...yup you guessed it right back to the Nav screen. I HATE THIS, I only need the damn Nav screen when I need directions not every time I get in the truckl........VERY ANNOYING! Some one needs to come up with a hack/fix for this.

Thanks for the tip. Does the JBL system sound ok? I don't blast my music but I do like it clear. Will a cargo liner work back there?

So I checked the carfax and it was serviced at 30,955 - Oil and filter changed chassis lubricated. Another poster mentioned that this should be a big service. LUckily all service was done at a Toyota dealer.

Just so you have a comparison: I bought my 2007 Limited w/ 37,000mi, Nav, XREAS and Air Suspension in Oct. 2008 for $23,000. It came from a Toyota dealership and it was a Toyota Certified (100k powertrain warranty). I looked for a long time and I thought I got a great deal.

If I had it to do again, I might consider the Sport model and purchase an aftermarket Nav. The things mentioned above about the Nav. annoy me as well, but I guess there will always be "something" that is a little annoying.

Well...that.s a cool ride...but I think that what they are asking for is too much....considering it is not a Toyota dealer and they more than likely are not gonna give you certifications nor extended warranty....In my opinion If I was you ...for that price ...I'll keep looking at Toyota Dealers .

I JUST picked up my 06' V8 Limited 4x4 w/59k miles for $19,500. That is a bit higher mileage than I would have preferred but for that price..... it's still a Toyota!

Looks like I have two options - negotiate the heck out of the 4Runner at the Mazda dealer and forgo the 100k warranty - or - Keep looking for one at the Toyota dealer.
There is a toyota dealer that has several 4runner Limited but the car fax comes up with Fleet Use.
Found this at a Toyota dlr. 06, ltd, nav, v-8, shadow mica, 55k miles, $25,4k. Is it worth the higher miles to get the warranty and Toyota CPO once over?

Nope...none....nada, very, very annoying to say the least.

there is a setting to stop the map from comming up automatically, press the info button, go to settings and under there u will see an option to return to map or stay on current screen and select that.

It WILL work, but only until you either shut the engine off, or put it into reverse. I found the NAV system a bit complicated at first, but after having used it on several trips, I think its great.

Thats my point (you forgot to also add make/recieve phone calls b/c it will revert back to nav screeen after hanging up) I changed the setting (to both on and off, tried both ways) and when I made a phone call or took a phone call or put in reverse wammo back to Nav screen. This is my point, I dont need to see the nav screen reappear after I take it out of reverse or make/take a phone call, then I have to hit the audio button again. I love the toyota based nav, but this is one pointless mistake they made, nav is for directions which I dont need 99% of the time I am in my truck. I would of rather had to hit the "I agree" button to activate the nav and if you dont hit the button it automaticly goes to the audio screen and the nav stays off untill needed reguardless if you make a call of put the truck in reverse.

You are right of course. OTOH, I've been around long enough to know that ALL cars have their little dopey quirks. Guess this bothers me far less than the lack of interior lighting at strategic points - but I knew about all that (thanks to this site) before buying. Still love my 4Runnner.

Hey, i just got a certified 06, 34k sport v8 for 21k. Luckily i was able to play two dealers off each other as they both had the similar ones, spec color, mileage etc.

If its not certified then i would expect it to go for around 20-22k?
