looking at buying 2000 SR5 4X

well my father in law has offered to sell me his pristine 2000 SR5
4WD 4R for a very excellent price.

Its got 107K and loaded with everything except power seats and leather.

Hes always had it dealer maintained since new and has all records.

Its got the locking rear, but hes NEVER used 4WD?!!?

I heard its bad to have never engaged it but the dealer he states has checked and all is OK.

Whats the verdict on this???



Obviously I'd change all the vital fluids like diffs, trans, and TC.

engage it yourself before buying

if you hear grinding or heavy binding, get him to get it checked.

also engage the elocker.

well as much as I love toyotas, I own what vehicle you are talking about and at 125K it's starting to have all kinds of expensive problems. I wish I would of never sold my landcruiser. It had almost 300K on it and never had any problems.

Lucky you. I searched for 4 months looking for an SR5 with a locker (within my budget), gave up in the end. Going to drop an air locker in in the summer.
I just bought a 2000 SR5 with 77k. I doubt it had ever seen anything other than icy roads so had limited 4wd time too. Its fine. Shifts smoothly, engages, no weird noises. The lever vibrates when driving but I expect that is normal. Technically, manufacturers reccomend regular 4wd use to ensure lubricating fluids are dispersed over the moving parts so nothing seizes up at the wrong time.
Check for some of the problems that wayneboard2 is unfortunately having. Alot of the time its the seemingly little things that can cause the most greif.

And for gods sake! Take that poor rig off-road soon!!!!
