Looking at the Bilstein 5100 set

I've already got a dedicated off-road rig and don't really need the 5160/6112 set up. Seems overkill to me for every day use and basic trail riding.

Basically looking get rid of some of the nose dive and firm things up just a bit.

I run Bilsteins on my offroad rig, they're old 5125's, I've beaten the piss out of them and wouldn't consider anything else.. Assuming these fall into the same family of shock.

Curious is anyone is running these and are you happy with them?

I had been debating on different setups for a while and got some take-off 5100s from a friend for a good price. I decided to install these and if I really wasn't happy, I'd make the upgrade from there. I had issues with the brake dive as well as confidence in the corners and I'll say that while these don't 100% solve the brake dive, it's SIGNIFICANTLY better. I would not hesitate to go with these again. The car is much more fun to drive and the ride doesn't feel harsh like some people might lead you to believe. It sounds like for the segment of suspension options you're going for, this is a great fit.

Installing my 5100's tonight/tomorrow and can report back. Taking a long road trip next week and will really know more then! I also decided to do OME coils up front.
 
Did the front first at 0.85, nose dive reduced and only slightly firmer ride. Added the rears later and much better off road with a feeling of better control.
 
Been running 5100's front and rear for about 40-50k now, 98% on road and 2% mild off road. I couldn't be happier with them. There is no such thing as overkill for a suspension system. My advice would be get real springs instead of spacers and plan ahead with what you'll be adding to your truck later on!
 
I've had these installed for the last 40K miles and they are fantastic. Eliminated nose dive and firmed up the ride. I have the fronts set at 1.75 and the ride is great. Alignment has never been an issue - no complaints at all.
 
I debated going 4600 or 5100. Then I realized my OEM shocks lasted for 167k and i could replace them for $150 and went that route. Been really happy with the OEM suspension on and off road for the most part. Not knocking the Billy's, but if not really needed, OEM shocks seem good. Only time I have got nose dive, maybe 3 times in 167k, was from slamming on the brakes.
 
Go ewith the 5160s

I couldn't stand the stock suspension in my '11 trail - crazy soft cornering and crazy amount of nosedive. I cheeped out and went with the 5100s. It's definitely an improvement, but I also definitely wish it was better still. Overall I regret not going straight to the 5160s since the price difference just isn't that much for something you'll hopefully get many miles out of.

At this point I still find it very annoying but don't really want to throw more money at a problem I shouldn't even have.

Of course all of this is subjective, and some people really love the soft & mushy mall-ride.

PS I'd also swap out the sway bar bushings with poly - it makes a surprisingly noticeable difference for something so cheap and easy to do.
