Looking for a 3rd Gen in SoCal

I can't think of a better first vehicle for my son than a 4Runner. He's turning 16 in October and I'm on the hunt for a clean 3rd Gen with low miles. Almost everything I see on CL is junk. PM me if you have something or know of anything for sale preferably in SoCal (I'm in LA). Thanks!

I found this on CarGurus.

Try checking out CarGurus. Found some decent looking 4Runners there

Car Gurus is mostly dealers, there's a guy in OC who is buying a lot of 3rd Gens, cleaning them up and flipping them.

I looked at one today and another one tomorrow. They all just seem beat.

I know that Car Gurus is mostly dealers but you do find some hidden gems in those lots. I was actually interested in purchasing a 4th gen that's 4wd but instead opted to just replace my engine w/ a JDM engine from Japan.

As for the pic I posted, he is a private seller in my neck of the woods. Might be worth a shot to check his rig out.

And no wonder I don't see as much 3rd gens lately compared to last year when I was on the hunt for a 3rd/4th gen 4wd 4Runner.

Well good luck on your search.

To be clean not against CarGurus but it is mostly dealers.

The 3rd Gen you posed would be great if it wasn't a manual, need an auto.

Thanks for the help, it's much appreciated.

I've sorta considered the thought of selling my 3rd gen and moving on to an 80 series LC.

Anyways. I have a buddy who looked at a few down here and jeez... does the car market suck. I grew up on the east coast and SoCal seems like a market of just reselling crooks out to get people. The 1 3rd gen 4R I looked at him with him had an odometer roll back so be very careful.

I found one with everything I wanted but no VIN stickers on the fenders or doors, I just couldn't pull the trigger knowing it was definitly repainted and the current owner said he knew nothing about it being painted.

Still looking...

Check the carfax website too. That's where I found my 01 with 100k miles at an audi dealership in henderson NV. It didn't show up on cargurus.

Still looking... someone on here has to have a clean lifted rig they want cash for right now?!?!?!

I've looked at almost a dozen in the last 2 months and they are all junk. I went to a dealer in Irvine and what a joke, all leaking oil, bad body work, super shady.

Took me a year to find my 4th gen wholesale from Henderson Nevada. The ones that are worth buying ready to roll are usually going to move quick. A lot of right place, right time. Unless you feel comfortable fixing one up. It is his first car... Shouldn't be too reliable...

Dunno what part of SoCal you're in, but this dealer in SD always has clean, older toyota trucks.

You're gonna pay the SoCal toyota tax though, unsure what your budget is but maybe you could find a 4 banger for your kid's first set of wheels.

Thanks for the help everyone, I actually found one last week in OC. 2000 SR5 2wd 171k super clean. Build thread coming soon.

Miramar Motorsports’s prices are fuxking outrageous. Always a $3-5K premium on anything they sell.
