Looking for a Differential and Tranny fluid DIY

Hi all!

I'm pretty new to the forums, and I recently purchased my first 4Runner ('02 SR5 Sport). My wife has had one for years while I went through 3 other cars (btw, BMW...not worth the headache... T4R... everything I ever wanted :biggrin2.

Anyway, I've been looking for a good DIY for changing the differential and transfer case fluids as well as performing a transmission fluid drain and fill. I'm familiar with the basics since owning a BMW made me choose between learning to be a mechanic or going broke, but if there are any DIY's out there that include to know all of the need-to-know information, I can't find them.

The F/R diff and transfer case drain/fill is extremely straightforward (as long as you take the fill plug out first.) Surprisingly, I couldn't find the following DIY in the above sticky, but the only real details are the wrench sizes you'll need. It also has fill quantities if you don't have your owners manual.

The most important part of the diff fluid change is remove the FILLER plug FIRST

Is there a brand and type recommended for the diff's and transfer case?

For example for my manual transmission it seems like this whole board SWEARS by Red-line MT-90 Brand type GL-4. Seeing as changing from what the previous owner had in there to MT-90 gave me 3rd gear back, I do too.

Curious if there is an equally amazing product for the transfer and Diff's.
