Looking for a dog? PLEASE adopt

First, just want everyone to know that I don't make a dime off of any of this. In fact I donate a considerable amount of money to rescue groups every year and would donate more if I could. I'm a Mortgage Banker by trade.

That said, if any of you, no matter where you're located, are considering getting a dog (or cat) please contact me. As my screen name implies, I am very involved in dog rescue. I'm a huge advocate for the "Bully Breeds" but I am well connected with all kinds of rescues and shelters.

My goal is that every adoption is a forever home so I'm not going to push an animal on you that isn't the right fit for you. If you only knew how many animals are KILLED each year in shelters simply because there aren't enough homes for them, it's sickening.

I am more than willing to help you find the right pet no matter where you are. Please adopt, don't buy your next best friend.

I really respect what you do, your a hero!

I fully intend to adopt a dog or two when I get a place with a yard. (hopefully a German Sheppard or a heeler)

I actually am considering adopting a child too when I get to that stage in my life.. so I can skip the whole 'diaper phase'. haha. We'll see though.

Keep it up, man.

Couldnt agree more. We just adopted a german shorthaired pointer from the shelter here in the springs and hes the most hyper, happiest dog ever. Were thrilled to have him.

Keep up the good work.

Ripcord, good luck bro. If you need any help adopting (the dog) let me know.

Acidmeld, good work. We think my Pit is mixed with a Pointer, sweetest dog you'll ever meet. He's actually sleeping at my feet while m typing this.

Give him some training, pointers are very smart dogs :)

Love the bully breeds! I had an english bulldog with my x-girlfriend. When we broke up, she retained custody. lol. Anyway, I'm planning on getting another english bulldog in a few years myself. AND, i'm planning on rescuing the one i get. There are some bulldog rescue shelters in my area, that, i'm planning on getting a hold of. Keep up the good work!

I have nothing against adopting at all and I am uneducated about the process however wouldn't that just be a cycle? If I have a dog or a purebred(something I am assuming someone would charge for, for the sake of argument) and it has puppies, if no one buys them because they are adopting from a shelter, wouldn't the puppies go to a shelter because the average person(owner of the puppies) can't handle a litter?

Broncosi, yes and no. Every dog needs a home but if people stop buying them, breeders will stop breeding them because they won't make any money. Thus lessening the number of homeless animals. Millions and millions of dogs are put to sleep in the US every year simply because they're homeless.

Oh were gonna need pics of this guy!!!!

Good luck, up around me there ain't no bulldogs in shelters around me, I wish there was, they are so damn expensive. But i could never mine up.
Heres some links to pics of mine so i dont pollute the adopt thread with purchased dogs: OSCAR OZZIE

Oh and PitbullRescuer you should post up some pics of your dog too!

Might i also add, the problem i forsee is that i am a bulldog guy, and most bulldogs that go into a shelter are fairly old, and what stinks is that you get the dog and you get a large emotional attachment to it, and then 3 years later he dies, and it devastates you, i just dont want to go through this emotional rollercoaster every couple of years.

When I lived in SOCAL they made the process of adopting so slow and expensive it was easier to buy, so that is what I did.
I don't live in CA anymore :jump:. The last two dogs I got were "rescued". They have been the best dogs.

You are to be commended, PitBullRescuer.

I have two dogs, one from the So. Ariz. Humane Society nearly 14 years ago...

Good work> love my American bull dog> id take a hundred of them if i could
but I'm more than content with the one i have for now. Good on you and keep up the good work>

As far as adopting from a Shelter, most of the ones here in So Cal that I know of require you to Spay or neuter them so you don't keep adding to the cycle. Some of the shelters also will do a background check and visit your house to make sure it is adequate for the pet you are trying to adopt.

I am currently long term dog sitting(6 months and counting) a Black Lab for a friend that ended up in an apartment after loosing ther house. Now I am looking at getting a puppy that is about to go to the shelter that is Lab/ Mastiff mix. An offroad buddies lab had relations with a stray Mastiff and is trying to find good homes before he takes them to a Shelter. The picture is of the puppy that caught my eye, most of the others are all black.

Good for you, I wish more people thought like you and felt the same way. All of our pets have been adopted. Our newest addition was trucked up from the south after being abandoned and left in a ditch and left to die. You wouldn't know it, he is such a sweet, happy dog.

Muddskipper and I currently have 2 rescues. A 9 year old Great Dane that we got about a year ago, and Lucky, a mix of a Burmese Mountain Dog and _____

Then we have 2 labs, but they were show lines, and yes they're still awesome but I love my Dane, he's a freakin rock star.
