Looking for a good mechanic

I'm in need of a finding a good mechanic/shop that I can call on whenever I can't fix my 4runner myself. It would be nice to find someone that I can trust not to rake me across the coals cost-wise.

I live in Oakland, Ca and am looking for something possibly in Oakland/Hayward/San Leandro/Berkeley, etc.

So if anyone has any recommendations I'd really appreciate.

I think fellow member Blackworks (hangs out on the 4th gen board since he owns a 04 V8) is an ASE mechanic that works at a Toy dealership in Hayward.

Thanks for the mention! We have a good selection of very knowledgable and experienced technicians who do good work; but yeah, you'd be paying dealership pricing. But you're welcome to call us for an appointment if you'd like.

Yeah, Yelp is always the first place to look. But there's nothing like first hand experience from folks who own the same vehicle you do. Thanks for the advice though.

The dealership I go to on occasion is pretty helpful and knowledgeable. But yeah, trying to avoid paying dealership prices if at all possible. But I'll keep you in mind if I have a quick question if that's ok.

Thanks, but the closer the better. Specifically because right now my 2nd gen is in need of possible some serious work and driving it as far as SF may not be the best idea. And I definitely wouldn't want to tow it that far if I don't have to.
