Looking for a place for Bluetooth Microphone

I'm upgrading my basic none JBL head unit and looking for a good place to put the bluetooth microphone. I'm consider putting it at the reading light/sunglasses compartment area. I just curious where is bluetooth microphone for the OEM head unit?

OEM bluetooth mics are mounted inside the sunglass holder. On the door or the console (can't remember), there are slots, behind them is the mic.

mine is located on that plastic cover that covers the wires on my rear view mirror looks great and no complaints from anyone on the other end.

I installed my just to the right of the gauge cluster using a little rubber bushing that I purchased from FRY's. I preferred this location for several reasons:

1) my mouth naturally points in that direction anyway
2) much easier to route the cable to the head unit
3) absolute easy access to the backside of the cluster panel

After installation, it turned out that mic sensitivity/reception in that location is perfect.... Oh, and it looks good!

Can't post a pic from my phone, but mine is mounted on the front headliner by the sunroof. It used to be on the aforementioned rear view mirror spot but people wouldn't hear me.

Thanks everyone for responding. I think I try a few locations to see where it works best before mounting it permanently. I want to mount it near the center so the passenger can also talk on the phone. I'll post a picture once I'm happy with the location.

I put mine on the A pillar. It has a few mm of clearance for the visor and seems to work very well.

To a large extent, the best location will depend on the echo reduction capability of your bluetooth kit and which speaker(s) you're using for caller audio.

If you look through my install thread for adding a Motorola kit to the stock JBL head unit, I started with the mic on the headliner near the top of the driver's A-pillar. I'm using the center dash speaker for caller audio. With the mic on the A-pillar, caller's said I sounded great, but all could hear significant echo of themselves. Echo bothers some more than others (wife found it intolerable) and after testing it myself, even on a parked vehicle, I tended to agree. I relocated the mic (should update my photos) to the top of the steering column and the callers' echo problem went away...at the expense of my voice quality to them sounding more digitized, but worth the tradeoff.

Well, if you require a photo different from the one here on this thread, I am happy to take on for you. But, yes, it's easy to run the cable from the back of the gauge cluster panel, to the back of the head unit. It only takes a few minutes. You just have to make sure that you get the correct diameter bushing and drill the appropriate diameter hole to accommodate said bushing. I love the location and it looks extremely professional. Let me know exactly what you want a pic of.

mine is above the steering column. I used to have it on top of the A-Pillar, but people never could hear me because the outside wind noise. I need to find a better place as sometimes people complain about where its at now.

I tried the driver side pillar, too much wind noise. Moved it to top of the steering wheel column, that works ok.

what I can't find is any kind of review or recommendation on the mics. I can't believe they are all the same quality. Some must be better than others.

I put mine behind the rear view mirror and ran the wire with the ones from the mirror, you can't even tell its there, which is what I wanted. Its in the middle of the car so passengers can join the conversation and I haven't gotten any complaints as far as sound, its away from all windows so no wind noise.

I'd like to see a picture of the bushing and mic installed. Is it just a standard rubber grommet or something specifically designed for bluetooth mics?

I just drilled a hole in the blank cover next to the A/C controls and mounted the mic. Works great and I think gives a custom sort of look.
