Hey everyone,

I just purchased a Pioneer avic f90bt. My 4runner is an 04 SR5/non JBL, w/o RDS. I don't have steering wheel controls either.

I have the Metra kit and wiring harness on the way from Crutchfield.

I'm sorry if this has been covered before, but every post i've seen has been with either JBL, steering controls etc, but haven't been detailed enough for me.

I don't have much knowledge with this kind of stuff, but I'd much rather tackle this myself then pay someone to do it!

- I've read there is a little shelf behind the radio where the GPS can go.
- It sounds like the mic should be slid up the pillar and positioned above the visor? Don't know if i will ever use the mic, should i install it?
- I was told this unit has already been bypassed for watching dvd's while driving (I wont be, but passengers will be).
All i need to do is ground a wire to the parking brake? not sure which wire...

Can anyone try and help me do a walk through for the install?

I can't help with the non-jbl because I have a JBL system, so this is an assumption, but your wiring harness should plug into the factory harness and have loose ends. You connect those ends with the wiring for your avic unit. You can find wiring diagrams in both your avic manual (for the wire colors) and at www.the12volt.com.

For the microphone, may as well hook it up. You can slide the wire from behind the dash under the driver panel (under the steering wheel) through the side and up the a pillar. You don't need to remove the a pillar, you can just slip it behind with a screw driver (tape the end so you don't mar the pillar trim) -- it may sound vague in writing, but it should be pretty easy when you go and actually do it.

For the GPS, I routed my through the kick panels, out the door, and then up along side the weather stripping of the windshield to the roof. There are a few spots inside the dash where you can do it as well -- these will be apparent when you get the dash open.
