Looking for my first 4Runner, would like some advice

So my trusty old Honda Accord was hit and totaled a while ago, and I've decided that I'd like to get a 4Runner as a replacement car. I've been reading most of these threads trying to garner some information and such, and I would love it if I could get an opinion on this one:

I'm down at school in LA, but my family lives very close so my dad can go take a look in person.

I'm worried about the mileage. I'm on a college student's budget, and I would like to avoid as much as possible a car that's going to require major maintenance anytime soon. Any advice would be appreciated, and thanks in advance!

I wouldn't pay $6K for it w/ 235K. More like $4K IMO.

That's what I was thinking, but the KBB says 9700, even with 235k miles on it. Yet somehow, I still feel like 6000 is too much. Maybe I'll offer them 4 and see what happens.

2000 limited

I just got one last week, same year model. 73,000 miles for 10,500.

Now, I bought it because it can go 250,000 - 350,000 miles. But, I wouldn't pay $3000 for one with that many miles.

While each market is different, there are ones that approx age with 105,000 that are not selling at $7,500. More beat up thou, as this is New England

Any idea as to why the KBB value would be so high? Or is that pretty normal and the economy is just so bad that dealers are scrounging? Maybe I'll offer them a trade on my bike

That's suggested retail (which nobody who is sane actually pays) and that's if it's in excellent condition (which is brand new shape). I can see a dent on one of those pics so I doubt the truck is in excellent.

Makes sense. I should probably just let this one go. Don't want my first 4Runner experience to be a bad one haha.

4wd and 5spd is sought after...even if this isnt what you're into i.e. not limited, fat bumper...just keep looking

I looked and read for a few months before I finally found one and bought it. That is quite a lot of miles to pay 6K for. If it was really clean, rust free and ran excellent I would think about 5K tops, maybe.. Like a very wise friend told me once "Its easier to buy than it is to sell".. Be patient, do your homework and be ready to jump when the right one finally comes along.
