Looking for new double DIN headunit w/ Nav

Hey all,

I've recently been the victim of car stereo theft and am in the market for a replacement.

I had the Pioneer AVIC-D3 which was a pretty neat unit but now that I know more about what I'm looking for, I'm MUCH pickier about the features I'd like.

I was originally just going to replace the D3 with the newer Pioneer "F" series unit until I started reading about all the issues with them (long boot times, freezing up, etc). As per Pioneer, they say they'll be sending "fixes" out to rectify these problems but I don't trust them anymore because they had many issues with the AVIC-D3 that they never took care of.

Anyway, I was looking at Kenwoods 7120 head unit which simply looks sweet and the reviews are very good for it as well. The 3 important features for me are a good Ipod interface, excellent navigation (Pioneers nav is HORRIBLE!!!) and some sort of theft deterent.

That's when my buddy who sold me the AVIC-D3 mentioned JVC's KW-NX7000 unit. It seems to have most of the same features as the Kenwood (Ipod interface, good nav software, double din) but the BIG plus is that the face is detachable. This is making me seriously consider it now over the Kenwood. Otherwise if they were identical, I'd simply go with the Kenwood.

My problem is that, because the JVC is such a new unit, I can't seem to find any real "hands on" reviews on how it actually works. Past reviews I've read about JVC's other head units seem to be pretty positive but I'd like to actually see how this one compares.

Anywho, does anyone out there have any info or experiences they can share? I wanna make sure i spend my insurance money wisely. And I've done the Google searches for info and have found a simple reviews but they only tout the features, not the actual experience had with the unit, whether good or bad.

I was in the same boat as you a month ago. I originally pre-ordered a Pioneer F90bt, but like you mentioned they were plagued with problems and wasn't patient enough to wait for them to fix their issues. After reading a bunch of reviews, I decided to get the Kenwood 8120 ( I actually got the 812 + add on nav, which is the exact same as the 8120). So far it has worked flawlessly, the ipod interface is instant and it is kinda neat that it posts a small pic of the album art from the ipod. I also got the XM antenna, which works fine. I was also pretty impressed by how much this head unit improved my sound over the stock system.

As for the nav part, it works good too. It has been accurate for me and from what I've read on some other forums it's just as accurate or more accurate than the pioneer, even though it doesn't have the VSS wire. The interface and maps aren't as detailed or cool looking as some others, it's basically the same as the portable Garmins (which is who does the nav for the kenwood).

I don't know much about the JVC, so I'm not much help there. I can just tell you I am fully satisfied with my 8120.

Can't go wrong with the AVIC Z3 ..... Only issue I have with mine is the Ipod interface is the first generation unit which is slow. Other then that it's tip top. Next week I will be installing a updated/patched AVICF900BT in my wifes 4runner I'll let yall know how it performes.

I like the idea of having a low lux reverse camera and nav unit and I have been considering this one as well as Kenwood DNX7100 and the Pioneer AVIC-Z3. Out of these three the JVC KW-NX7000 has all the options I want- 5volt 6RCAs with Sub level control, 7slide eq, SD card, ipod and external sat connection (w/ JVC KS-U57), a especially a detachable face ....and less $ than others @ around $850. I've had good experience with JVC in-dash before. Would love to hear some consumer reviews does anyone own this or what???

Well I'll let everyone know how I like the JVC NX7000 when I get it installed next week. I finally slapped my insurance money down on it during my lunch break (replacing a stolen Pioneer AVIC-D3). I'm getting sick of using my SIRIUS boombox in my car.

Apparently it's such a new unit that it's really difficult to play with one in the shop somewhere. I played around with the JVC KWAV810 which is very similar (except no nav) and I did like the interface and the look as well. I figured JVC can't really screw this new one up to much so I pulled the trigger.
Especially because of the removeable faceplate. I still have no idea why more manufacturers don't try and incorporate that into their design.

Oh well, I'll see if I can post some pics next week.
