Looking for new SR5 without a sunroof

Hi all -

New member here with a question.

I'm looking into entering the world of Toyota ownership after 25 years of Big Three brands. I've been researching and looking at many SUV's and I'd like to buy a new SR5 within the next 4-5 months.

My problem is I'm looking for an SR5 4WD without a sunroof and my local dealers tell me that's not possible. Toyota lists it as an option, so why is it I can't get one without it? I recall seeing one on a dealer's lot last summer but I'm having a problem finding one now.

I really have no desire for a sunroof and I need as much headroom as I can get. (I've heard the 'good-for-resale' bit, but first and foremost I need something I can fit in.) Unfortunately this would be a deal breaker for me, which is a shame because the 4Runner really fits the bill otherwise.

Being a newbie to buying a new Toyota, what can the membership here enlighten me on? I've purchased new vehicles in the past but I'm finding the Toyota dealers a little more difficult to work with.

sr5 no sunroof

Try some new car finders on the web. I can't remember which one I used but it helped me find one with 3rd row seat without sunroof which is not common also. Had to travel dealer about 100 miles away not to bad. GOOD LUCK

One word...Special Order. Check my purchasing info page to see how I special ordered to get one without the SR.
 
5th gens without a moonroof are rare, but they exist. I found one (the ONLY one) in my entire region without a moonroof, took a 3 hr trip to test drive, and then started thinking about my "own" build.

I went to zag.com (Drive your Dream link) and built one w/o a moonroof, then worked with both responding and local dealers to arrive at a fair price. I ordered one w/o moonroof from my local dealer. Now I wait ...
 
They're available in the Kansas City area. I just bought one with no moonroof and, looking at current inventory, there are at least three in the metro area still on the lots.

J.A. – I read your 4Runner purchasing article – Thanks, I learned a lot on how Toyota configures and distributes their vehicles. I went to the Toyota site and built one for my region (Chicago) and it looks like I can get one without a sunroof, if I get the 3rd row seat and radio package. (Ideally I was looking for an SR5 with no options, but this would not be the end of the world.) So, I’ll have to take this up with the dealers who tell me they can’t get one. Would it pay to contact a Toyota regional manager if I can’t get a dealer to cooperate? I have not ruled out a special order though.

Cody – I checked the Toyota site for the Denver region, but every option package for 2011 includes a sunroof. Possibly that wasn’t the case for the 2010 model year in your region?

Bucephalus – Thanks for the PM and link. According to the Kansas City region on the Toyota site it looks like I can get one with the radio option. That seems like the best combination for me and it may mean a trip down there if I have no luck here.
 
If your in the Chicago area, check out Chicago Northside Toyota. I just bought my Black SR5 from them last week and they had two in stock without the moonroof/sunroof.
Also, they were very accomodating and easy to work with. They have a network of dealers around the Chicago area, so they will find you the vehicle that you want.

Is Zag.com for real? I am hoping to get a new Camry soon and looks like I can save over $5k off MSRP by going through them. When you get to the dealer, does the price change? Also, what happens if I have a trade in?
 
You can get SR5's without a sunroof. Just tell the dealer you don't want an SR5 Premium package. That's what I did and it took about a week in Texas to get one before Gulf States got their grubby hands on it.
 
most of the models that I found in the South Bay are SR5 non premium as well.
Then again, I simply wanted 4x4.

TE models seemed rare as well out here.
 
Both of the TE 4runners I drove prior to purchasing were sunroof-less. I know you are looking for an sr5, but a trail may be an option.

Hi I was able to get a SR5 4x4 without sunroof. I had to search a lot of dealerships around my area and finally found one. Just keep searching and you should be able to find one somewhere.
 
+1...4WD, 3rd row, no sunroof....
straight SR5 Basic...


Initially i did want a sunroof, just because i thought it would be a nice addition...but now that i dont have one, i dont miss it. if i want the sun on my shoulders, ill ride my motorocycle.

no special order, it was on the lot...so i chose it.
