Looking for opinions - wheel strategy

I have a recently purchased '08 Limited which came with stock wheels shoed with BFG Long Trail TAs (265/60R18). I love the rims, the tires are almost new but I'm not bowled over by how they look.

Living in an area with lots of snow and ice, I'm not confident in the Long Trail's winter performance and I'll probably get a set of winter tires such as Blizzaks and a 2nd set of rims.

Naturally, I'll be keeping the 18s. So the question is: do they become the summer or winter set, and what rims/tires would the other set be? The truck is my D/D but I do light off-road to access canoe/dive sites, etc.

I know this thread sounds a bit like brainstorming, but it isn't hypothetical, I'll consider any serious options. Hope this generates some interesting discussion.

Odd, this site has never struck me as short on opinions...

For what it's worth, I've decided to keep the 18s as my summer wheels and reconsider the Long Trails in the Spring. As money is a little short, I'm just going to find some steel 17s and put the best winter tires on it that I can afford. It won't be pretty, but it'll do the job.

That was actually going to be my suggestion. You'll probably want to keep the stock rims in better condition so when/if you go to trade it in you can return it to stock.
As far as the steelies go, may as well try to find a decent set. You might even grow to like them enough that you prefer them over the stock combo.
