Looking for quiet power please

I have searched around on here but not really finding what Im looking for. I would like to get a few more horses out of my 4Runner by adding an exhaust of some kind. I just installed a True-flow air filter and did the elbow mod and am very happy with the results. However I am looking to find a muffler or exhaust system that will add power but not be louder than stock. I know some people may think a loud system on a V6 sounds good but every one I ever heard sounds like crap! I personally like the note of the stock system but would like to find something a bit more free-flowing that wouldnt annoy me with the sound. Any suggestions? Thanks!

You won't find anything that is not louder than the stock one. The point is to have free flowing exhaust, more air comes with more noise. Gibson is supossed to be the quietest around, other wise leave it as is.

That JAOS does look mice but a bit more than I'd like to fork out. Okay, a little noise would be fine but I just dont want it to sound like some redneck ridge runner. Its my daily driver as well as our main family vehicle so I dont want it to give us all a headache going on trips and so forth.

The Magnaflow on my truck is music to my ears. To me it is the perfect loudness and tone. It has a deep V8 tone pulling away from a stop and quiets down to a nice low purr at highway speeds. The faster I cruise on the highway the quieter and smoother it gets. I don't have the drone that some seem to get at 2K RPM. I need to check out someone else

Im with Koz on this one...the Magnaflow designed Cat-back (not to be confused with just chopping the muffler off) is actually quite reasonable in tone.

Thanks for the help guys! The only thing is, I see you guys have the newer model with the V8. I had the Magnaflow cat-back on my F150 and I couldnt have been happier. The thing is I have the V6. I know it will sound much more different on mine than it will with yours. What do you guys think?

I think that overall the volume should remain about the same.

That being said you may notice different tonal characteristics being amplified as v6's and v8's are accoustically different, of course. Thus while the overal volume may remain constant, the harmonic shift might be right range of human hearing. Hard to say.

The only thing that I might bring up is that because of the lower power output (including torque) of the v6 versus that of the v8, the absolute power required maybe greater than that is required of the v8. As such, there might be a higher chance of exhaust drone versus that of the v8.

As the owner of a v8 with the magnaflow this is purely speculation based on years of product design, (field) testing, application/use of exhausts in multiple different vehicles.

Those with a v6 could comment with much more insightful information.

Very well put Casper! You explained it very well. I was kinda hoping some of the 3rd gen V6 guys would chime in with their thoughts or experiences. If nothing else, I may just leave it as is.
