Looking For Shovel Mounts For Factory Roof Rack

did some searching and couldn't find anything.....

Same idea as the hi lift mounts - grab some yakima mighty mounts (10v can be had on ebay for ~20) and the bolt a piece of angle through them, stick a U bolt in that and you have a shovel mt.

I dont have my personal PC with me to show the pictures but if you search a bit more you will find some ideas. Search the DIY folder. Also Sundog has a great setup. His is on a 5th Gen but it is the same as the 4th Gen.

Nice shovel! I carry the same one around during the winter and it does a fantastic job digging folks out.

Off topic but what size ARB awning are you running? I'm torn between the 2000 and 2500.

haha, thanks. I get made fun of quite a bit for that shovel. It looks like a toy shovel a kid would use, but tell you what. It works great! So light and I have used it 2 times to do some heavy duty digging.

I have the 2500. 2000 would be too small I think. Even the 2500 is just big enough for one motorcycle and one chair underneath

HA! People laughed at me too walking around my neighborhood with it til, 'snap, snap', extend the handle and I dug them out. Then they were all "where can I get one of those!". Have you used it on dirt yet? It tears through sand and snow quite well but I've been leery of using it on the Virginia clay down here. That stuff has killed some of my steel shovels!

Cool -2500 is the direction I was leaning. Think you sold me on it.

I'm a huge fan of the quikfist mounts, and it wouldn't be too difficult to mount them through the crossmembers of the roof rack. I put four on the inside of my rear door to hold small tools, and I have a large one holding an extinguisher as well. Very cheap and effective

The quickfists are good, very easy to use once installed. The yakima universal mounts that hold up the quickfists in my setup though - I had to get longer bolts and drill the base out so I could tighten the bolts from the top instead of the from the rear. Hard to explain, but in combination with the quickfists, they are a little awkward to use without modification.

Have anyone mounted their shovels inside the trunk near on the plastic parts?

I'm thinking of using these rubber Kolpin Rhino Grip to hold my small shovel on the plastic back side of the trunk. Has anyone found a way to maybe stick the rubber grips to the plastics on the walls or near cup holder area? Is it safe to drill?
