Looking for TRUE 1GR-FE Information

Hey All,

So I am in the process of making my 400 N/ABHP 1GR-FE T4R a mere 450-500HP and of course that involves tuning. I know old time tuning methods but computers and tables are all so new to me. I was messing around with the base ignition table, as well as the intake and exhaust valve angles and actually made a somewhat small but decent crackle tune for it. I started thinking about my poor heads and then I realized I could just look up all of these Toyota Engine Specifications.

Long Story Short, There isn't jack on what the 1GR-FE is Capable of, especially in terms of the 4Runners models. I want to know if anyone has any sources for the real deal test of these engines. I know Toyota has a habit of randomly picking off an engine from the conveyer belt and redlining it for an hour or 2 above what it's normal redline is, but I can't even find any information on that? I want to know what Toyota has truly pushed this engine to do on the stock internals and variables (Obviously I don't have stock internals) but it is an ok reference. Any information would be amazing!

Gadget of URD has pushed these engines. He spends his time on XRU. I believe 450 crank will need boost for sure and maybe sleeves. One member blew it up even after sleeves and just dumped it for an LS.

Don't crackle tune, that's rice.

I hear information like that but then I hear stock 3.5V6 Taco owners on there forums raising there rev limiters to 6500 and goin ham for 30000+ miles and not having issues? Quite confusing.

The 3.5 is not the same engine and fairly untested. Raising the limiter and it lasting now doesn't mean they will last in the long run. I don't think anyone has really hit high miles with the Taco 3.5 yet.

Well I can gladly, confirm 6300 rpm limiter for about 20,000 miles is doing great, with a total of 140,000 miles on the 4.0L V6. A/F is also down to 13, sometimes I'll reflash and run a 12.2 but it varies.

There is a drift car in Japan using a turbocharged 1GR making a good amount of power. I'm sure it is possible to achieve. The question remains how much lol
