looking for wheel advice, have inspiration

recently picked up an 02 SR5 with 200k from Arizona. Has Tundra TRD springs in front and 906 in back, 4runner Bilsteins all around. 275-70-17 E Dynapro tire and Tacoma wheels. I am not a fan of the tires, and don't care a lot for the wheels on this truck.

I am debating between Sequoia wheels or the Level 8 Mk6 wheels in gun metal or bronze. and debating if I want to stay with a 17, or go back to 16. I do think this body style looks good with more rubber under it.
tires will be 265-75-16 or 265-70-17 Duratracs

I really like the bronze color and think it would look sick on white, but afraid with chrome bumpers and silver flares it would clash too much. I thought about painting the flares white, but on the fence. I want to keep the bumpers chrome.

The gun metal from pictures looks awesome in the sun and I think the darker wheel would work well with the silver chrome and white color scheme.

But those sequoia wheels look good on everything especially in that dplicolor gun metal color.

I like the Sequoia rims in that color. I would probably choose the gun metal over the bronze in the MK6s.

Really, both of those wheel choices look great. My vote, though, goes to the Sequoia wheels. It's one of the few factory wheels that compliments the 3rd gen quite well.

I should mention that I have a set of the Sequoia's, so I'm a little biased in my choice.

Congrats on the purchase. Looks sharp.

Never been a fan of 17" wheels. Not enough sidewall for a 4x4 vehicle. Have you thought about '05-'06 TRD Tundra wheels painted graphite? My Tacoma pictured.

The bronze Mk6 are super gold, and no bueno.
Gunmetal if you're going Mk6, but I also love the Sequoia wheels.

Let’s say I chose the 8” wide mk6, with 265-70-17 or 265-75-16 tires, would you suggest 0 or -10 on the offset? I’d like them close to flush with the flares but not really sticking out.
Weight of the 16” mk6 makes it tempting to body lift and 285 duratrac, doh.

So I like the design of the Level 8's, but didn't like the extra weight. I bought FN wheels (made by Konig) Countersteer Type X. They are 17x8 -10mm and only weight 20 pounds. I have no complaints about them whatsoever.

Here you can see, they sit just along the edge of the the fender, with 285/70R17 Duratracs.

The FN Wheels BFD is a sweet wheel, I’ve only seen it in 18x9 though, that is the wheel that led me to the level 8 mk6, looks the closest to the BFD.

All these photos you guys are sharing look great, I think I’m gonna go with the 16” mk6, I think I will drop about 20 lbs unsprung weight per corner from what I have now. Wow

Oh, I forgot to say that mine are et0. So- on a 9" wide wheel- that's 5" backspace.
If you're going with an 8" wide wheel, I would get the et-10 for a rig with big flares like mine/yours.
My buddy just got Fuel Recoil in 17x8.5" et-6 with a 285/70R17 KO2, but he has no flares, so it's nearly irrelevant-

The flares make almost 2" difference, so it definitely changes what offset looks "right".

Looking right and performing right are two different things. As you move the offset towards zero you also give a greater chance of rubbing the frame at full lock. Our trucks all have the same frame so that's gonna be the same for everyone. Tire size also plays a role.

With my 295/70/17 on 17x9 -12 and 1.25" spacers my tires sit well outside my SR5 flares. They don't rub anywhere at full stuff, full lock though. Of course that's more to do with my SPC arms and my grinder. lol

There's no way you are dropping 20 lbs per corner. You will almost certainly be adding weight to each corner.

275-70-17 E dynapro atm = 58 lbs

16x8 mk6 et 0 - 23.5, or et -10 = 24.5
265-76-16 duratrac C = 45 lbs

87 lbs - 69 lbs = 18 lbs per corner

its a guess, am I way off?

I like the MK6 wheels a lot and I was going to get them because the price was so good, but I decided to go with the FN FX Pro wheels in matte bronze. They aren't super gold looking which I like and they come in a 17x8

Huh? He's talking about an 8" wide wheel with an et of 0 or -10 and a 265 tire. I promise neither will rub the frame on stock arms.
My 315's barely rub the frame on a 9" wide wheel with a 5" BS/et0.
The closer to the frame, the lower the scrub radius. The lower the scrub radius, the better the performance will be.

I wasn't gearing the reply to the OP, just as a reminder to other folks looking at the thread. If you don't have much rub with 315's I believe you. With 295's I rubbed. I also don't mind my scrub radius. It drives great on and off road. No jerking at all. I also like the wider stance for off camber situations. That's the set-up I use. It works for me and works very well. I understand others run different set-ups and are equally as happy with them.

judging by the level 8 mk6 thread, the 16x8 look out of stock, not sure on the 17x8. this could be the decision maker. I do believe the local salvage yard yard has 4 sequoia wheels, I will check on the condition tomorrow and price.

I don't remember the Level-8s being all that heavy. BTW who put that ugly paint damaging balancing weight on the outside of your nice wheel. Unless you did it yourself then no-offense, sorry. But no decent shop taking someone's money should have done that. There are cheap sticky tape balancing weights that go on the inside of the rim. I just cringe looking at that picture.

BFD’s do only come in 18”. The FN Six Shooters are basically the same wheel but in 17’s. I have the BFD’s on my GX and love them.

I'd drop down to 16" and go for one of the FN brands. They tend to be relatively lightweight. I think the countersteer and the 5Star look awesome. The Tundra and other Toyota OEM options look pretty nice but they're heavy as all get-out.

I know no 4Runner is ever going to win a footrace, but unsprung weight is a big deal with the type of power we get from our engines. You tend to feel it instantly.

You don't want your truck to fall down on a trail, but I recommend finding a balance with what works on the trail and what works on the road, we don't need 17 inch wheels and 10 ply tires. ESPECIALLY after you add hundreds of pounds with bumpers, winch, sliders, armor, basket....etc etc etc. If it were me I would do what I could to keep weight off where I can.
