Looking Forward to massive price drop in 4th Gens.

I see a lot of people who were waiting and thinking 2010 would bring a really all new Toyota 4Runner, and now are seeing just a small change in the new 5th Gens body metal. And nothing really new under the body metal.

They will quickly be jumping on the older 4th Gen. Toyota4Runners.

Thanks for nothing Toyota. Moving forward HUH....Oh well.:gun5:

I wouldn't call the cosmetic changes minor, inside or out. http://www.edmunds.com/insideline/do/Drives/FullTests/articleId=157853

As others have mentioned, I think the 4th gen V8 is going to hold it's value extremely well. Toyota finally got it right by putting in a powerful, efficient, V8 powerplant in the 4R. Then they yanked it. I am still holding out hope that they drop the new 4.6L V8 into to the new 4R at some point but that remains to be seen. When the sky was falling last summer with gas prices soaring, everyone was saying you wouldn't be able to give away a truck or SUV with a V8. Well, guess what, they were wrong. BTW, just filled up for $2.30 a gallon this week. :biggrin2:

I drove by Stevenson Toyota a few weeks ago and not only do they have hardly any 4R's, but their lot looked half full in general. I understand they need to make room for additional inventory but they are not going to be giving cars away simply to move them off the lot.

Are there deals to be had with the remaining '09 4th gens? Sure. Are they going to give them away simply to make room for the 2010's? Not a chance. Dealers are in the business to make money, not to simply pass through inventory when sales slow down. The quote that ToyTech mentioned in his post sounds like a pretty fair deal for an '09 IMO.

Now, a sales person might try to pull the "you have the previous body style 4R, nobody wants those anymore" line if you were to try to trade one in at a dealer. But we all know that is BS. Toyota 4R's have historically held their value very well, especially in colder climates like here in CO.

Doesn't really matter to me though, because I plan on keeping my '07 for a loooooooooooong time. :)

. :)

I'm not sure what you consider "giving away" when it comes to the few new leftover 4th gens, but there's a dealer in my area willing to sell an '09 Sport Edition for invoice price. The other dealer down the road from my house wants $500 over invoice for a nearly identical vehicle.

Both sound like good deals IMO, obviously the one selling for invoice especially. But even if a dealer is selling a vehicle at invoice, there are dealer handling fees, destination fees, etc., etc. that the dealer still makes money on.

I used to work at a car dealership (in customer service, not sales) and trust me when I say that the dealer ALWAYS makes money, even if the customer perception is that they got a deal of a lifetime. Even if you purchase a vehicle with cash, you still have to go through the dealer's finance department and that is a way they squeak out some extra margin in the vehicle. Extended warranties, GAP insurance, etc. Even dealer add-ons that you don't have the option of taking off, they still manage to get some money out of most people even if the purchase price is killer. The dealer I worked at was great. Very fair and reasonable people, but I still think they hosed people over in the finance department. I know I am veering off topic but that has been my experience.

Just out of curiosity, do those '09's you mentioned have V6's or V8's?

Both V6. There was a V8 at one of the dealerships, but it is gone. I suspect someone wanted to grab the last new V8 before they were all gone.

I'm looking forward buying sport edition 4wd v6 2008/2009 in a year or so.
Hopefully they will be selling under 20k with <30k mileage.

That might be a little ambitious. '06 and '07 V6 SE's with under 50k miles here in CO are still fetching prices well north of $20k. However, 4x4's typically see higher resale values in this region of the country, especially with winter approaching, so it might be different where you are.

With the 5th generation coming out and looking good we should see some great values in used 4th gens coming. With the price of gas going up and the new 4runner coming out those that are looking for a 4th gen should be able to get them for cheap.

Looks like this thread kind of backfired. Almost as much as your first attempt with the inflammatory language that got deleted.

No matter what happens to 4th gen values it will take a few years.

Plus the V8 option in used 4th gens will continue to be popular no matter what gas costs.[

AMEN, I am all about a V8 coupled with 2WD and the Sport Pkg. I assume most Red Blooded American Males agree.
