Looking to buy a 4Runner - Thoughts on this one?

I checked out this 4Runner today. Ran smoothly and had a really clean interior. Just wondering if the high mileage should be of concern. And what is a fair price for it?

Seems ok to me. Kind of a random price though dont you think? hehehe... That mileage shouldnt be a big issue, and I believe the price matches the mileage too. Have a real good look underneath for fluid leaks.
And if you buy, get the dealer to give you a full tank with it!

appears well taken care of but be sure

they should be willing to show you the carfax to prove no accidents and so on.

Pull the VIN number and run it through a Toyota service department to see what they can tell you about the maintenance done on the vehicle.

See how many owners-if that would matter to you....

2 timing belts should have been done by now and at least one water pump. Perhaps the dealer will throw in one of those used car warranties for a low charge or free....

If you were to compare to a 99/2000 you may see some subtle improvements made that would appeal to you, but overall that seems like a clean vehicle for a decent price.

There really are very few Toyota lemons- this one sure does not look like one, but be sure it is not a flood vehicle for example......

It's had one owner but it was a corporate lease vehicle. I'm going to call Toyota and check the service records. And perhaps they can offer a cheap warranty.

The price has also been reduced, and I'd bet it can go even lower. Car looks great though.

Just called a couple Toyota dealerships and they said they can't get maintenance logs if the car was serviced elsewhere.

Maybe I'll just ask to drive it to a dealership to have them inspect it beforehand.

that would be some cheap insurance. Any dealer here in Denver will look up the VIN on their computer-try that nice Yota dealership in Long Beach.

since it has rear chrome bumpers, get on the ground and look underneeth and behind the quarters and rear bumper, i bet u will find some rust..... um.... also check cuz thats where i find alor of my mud and snow and dirt build up.... maybe u could get the price lower by finding some rust....!!!... good luck

I am in the process of finding my first 4runner right now. From my experience, I would take it in to a Toyota dealership to have them do a full inspection, espcially with no service history available on it. It is worth the investment. I was looking at a beautiful 99 limited with 155k mi on it. I had my boyfriend, a dealership mechanic, look under the hood and found lots of leaks...bad news. He also found aftermarket stuff and said it looked like it wasnt maintained very well. It was so clean on the outside and I was ready to buy, but glad to have found that out and not gotten into something with problems.
The dealership can also give you estimates for fixes that you can use to negotiate price.
I'm staying patient and waiting for the right one to come along, even though it is very hard. I think if any 4runner is well cared for, they are more than likely to be a solid vehicle with few problems...its just that the people who love and care for their 4runner dont want to give it up!
