looking to buy: HELP!!

Hey guys, im hoping to get a little help with making a decision

right now i own a 2007 toyota matrix xR, which i have been modding for over a year now. im growing tired of it because no matter what i do its still a 1zz-fe 4 speed auto... :ybrick:

so a friend and i have been thinking of throwing down some money on 2 first or second gen 4runners for the winters,spring, and fall

we both have Daily drivers (my matrix and his corolla) and want these cars simply for the fun of off roading. we will be putting minimal miles on them, very few mods, and we will most likely not run them in the summer because we live in arizona and the heat sucks.

how much would you suggest we should spend on some cars like these? what should we look out for? anything will help

Hello and welcome I know exactly what your saying g I have an 01 celica with the 1zz lol switching to mr2s as for 4runners we have had 7 first gens are sweet as hell top comes off 22re last forever great vehicle 2ed gens also great vehicles
POINT 1 I'd say rarity 1sr Gen is way to go 2eds are EVERYWHRRE!
Point 2 parts for 2ed Gen are crazy easy to get parts for
1st is a little harder unless you buy an entire parts truck
Point 3 1st tens run leaves in rear and if you get an 85 in front as well 2ed gens. Run coils
Its really all in your preffrence of what you like to look at I prefer 1st over 2ed anyday
Price range
1st can run from 300-17k lol all depends on condition
2ed cab run 300-4k if you want if you find something post the link or pics and the asking price and we will gladly help

i like the 6speed 22R's

i prefer manual, so i can learn how to drive stick better

i learned on a jeep CJ5 so i cant imagine it being much different

I'd go with the last one. Although I'd talk him down. He states minor rust but in the last pic that a-pillar is rotten

The first one would be ideal also all depends if your a decent mechanic lol. If it were me I'd get the 1st but that's just my opinion the third one would be strictly mountain lol

the last one would be the model i would want, but i understand the older it is, the more problems

and im not all that handy, but im pretty sure if i can work get some mods done to a Matrix i can get work around an older 4runner (seems like the newer it gets the more complicated working on it is)

also my brother works at a shop and my bestfriend has built a 1990 jeep Cherokee XJ.

it would most likely be between the first or last links because they are running and within my minimal budget
