Looking to Lift In DFW

Hi all,

first post, wasn't sure where it should go.

I have Bilstein 5100 (4x) and daystar rear spacers I'm looking to put in.

I see a lot people talking about doing this at home, and I'm definitely the DIY type of person. I just moved to North Dallas and I would love to try and tackle this myself, but I don't have a lot of knowledge on it, and I live in an apartment so I don't have my space to store purchased tools.

I was hoping I could find someone in the area that maybe would want to walk me through this install and give me pointers/ had the tools. I will compensate you in both USD and of course some beers or anything or that sort.

I have an install scheduled, but I think this would be much better as a learning experience and just being able to say I helped work on my own rig.

PM me if anyone in DFW is up for the challenge.

Again, sorry if this post isn't where it should be.

Cheers!

Here's a picture of the pros I just put on 275's, hence the need for the lift!

I can't help you install it but I have done several in the past, nothing with IFS but from what I understand it's somewhat plug and play. Buy jack stands and a jack and lift up either the front or the rear, take wheels off, unbolt shocks and UCAs if you bought new ones, then put the new stuff on. Repeat for the rear end. You may need a pickle fork. you can rent tools from autozone. There's plenty of great threads on here about it.

Appreciate the info, ya I've gone through a lot of the threads regarding the specifics. Also thought it would be a cool opportunity to catch some knowledge, tricks of the trade, from someone whose worked on 5th gens. At this point, still exploring every option. Looking for a push to just go get all the tools and do it myself, renting from autozone is a good idea.

If your problem is only that the tires rub, then a lift won't help that. Whether you lift it or not, the fix for rubbing involves trimming or remolding the mudflap and repositioning the front fender liner where it rubs (lots of threads on this).

If you want to lift it for better appearance and clearance off-road, then that's a different story (even more threads on this!).

I wouldn't call the process "plug and play." There are a fair number of things that can go wrong, and some mechanical aptitude and experience are necessary.

P.S. If I lived in the DFW area, I'd come help you. I think putting out that request is a good idea.

Not entirely true... I have 3" lift and uca's, run 285's (KO2's) with absolutely no modification to the front fender and very minor rub on the mudflap in reverse and certain off-road situations (literally a 1" spot). I wouldn't run 285's on stock suspension even if you did the fender mod and removed the flap.

It's a simple process but I would go to a shop to have the 5100's put in the coils unless you have a spring compressor. The rental spring compressors are shaky at best and tend to damage the finish on springs, other than that it's plug and play.

Hey pondark, I'm in DFW too. Like you, just put BFGs 265s on. So, no plan to lift, other than to level the truck. Let me know how your effort goes.

I also added FN wheels. Love the center piece you have on your wheels - are those TRD wheels?

I'm going to be adding roof rack and sliders next.

I live in Plano. I have a 5th gen I've been considering throwing some 5100's on as well. I have plenty of garage space, just not the technical expertise. I do know someone that could help though. I would be glad to let you use my space and help as needed, as I'd be learning as well. PM me if you're interested.

Just wanted to say thanks to everyone for the input and offering to help. I had this done by epic4x4 and they did a great job, very cool people, and were responsive.

Looks and runs great, very please with the lift
