Loose seat 2004 4Runner

Hi all I am new to the forum and owning of a 4Runner (bought an 04 on Sat and I love it!) I just have one problem that I didn't notice at the dealership. The driver seat wiggles so when I hit a bump or stop hard the seat shifts slightly and makes for a major annoyance. It seams that the left front and back right are the two areas it wants to wiggle most. Has anyone else had this problem? I plan on tearing it apart on sat and see what I cant uncover and hopefully correct. But in the mean time I wanted to know what some experts might know.
Thanks

This is, unfortunately, a very well documented issue with the 4Runner. As far as a fix is concerned, I really don't know how to go about doing that. I know some people have taken theirs into the dealership, but with mixed results and in some cases, no results at all.

Others with this problem can probably shed some light on this issue.

In the mean time, you might try using the forum's search feature and see what shakes out of a query there.

I have same problem on my 03 4runner. Let us know if you will be able to solve the issue. It is annoyance and I also wanted
to tear seat apart to see if I can fix it. It seems to come from front and rear where cushions join the adjustable rails. There are
some free play there that could be fixed with washers or something.

I realize it's a used '04 (me too), but I would go back to the dealer if it's only been a couple of days. If they balk let them know how much it would be worth in "goodwill".

There are other threads on the forum about this. Some got quite long and heated. Mine was specifically with the adjustable lower thigh cushion shifting around. I don't need the adjustment so I fixed it in place with wood blocks:

I have a 2008 urban runner and the seat moves some when I turn. I am going to take it back at some point and get warranty to fix it!
By the way...I also bought a 2009 Corolla and the seat started moving ALOT last month. They just put a new seat in it. A few weeks later I noticed the 4 runner is doing it!

Toyota should do a recall!

I had the same problem with my 2003 that I bought from Carmax a few months ago.

It was quite funny. When I test drove the 4R the salesman said "now, we're going to make only right turns on this loop around the dealership. If you bring it home and find out it won't turn left then just bring it back."
Well...I didn't notice the problem until I was turning left on a highway ramp (which put my butt's pressure more to the right)!

The rear right side corner of the seat would flex downward as if it wasn't supported.
It was very annoying and would do it if I hit speed bumps, pot holes, even slight dips in the road.

I found the TSB for that problem:

Just print that out and bring it back to the dealer. If the dealer is decent then they'll fix it without giving you any problems.
It's nice and solid after the fix.

Now I have a problem where the rear seat bottom won't stay up after I pull the lever. It's a different problem than yours though...

:bash: my dealer said the people in Japan weigh alot less so they make the seats for lighter people!
Thats why they break in America! Dang I thought I was doing good at 6'1 and 180 pounds!

Thanks for that info but my 4runner is out of the warranty period... will that still be honored?

You know I would think that Toyota would REALLY recall this or make it right when it comes to a lose seat. My 2009 corolla is fixed for the time being but if it happens again its going to be a major issue. My 4 runner is starting to do it and I am going to have them look at it next oil change.
It seems that they would happily fix it! I mean what if it came lose and you got seriously hurt? I figured Toyota would be more than happy to fix your seat if you came back with it failing.

I just dont understand why they skimped on the seats. They need to do something.

my 2008 started doing it a little last week but just found out it wasnt clicked in all the way. So I don't have the problem yet but we will see as the miles get racked up on it. If it does happen, I hope it happens before the warranty is up.

It doesn't hurt to ask.

Print that TSB out and bring it over to the dealer. The worst they can say is no.
At which point I'd personally throw a hissy fit til they gave it to me.;):

My 4runner did this as well I took it to the dealer they replaced the seat frame and about 10 months later it did the same thing and now since it is out of warranty they pretty said sucks for me
