Lost all coolant in sub 0 weather.

Anybody ever seen this? I hadn't driven my 4runner in a few days. Went outside and started it to let it run for about 15 and drove to work. On the way I started smelling coolant really strong but temp was fine. Came to a stop and there was steam pouring out from under the hood. Seems like my coolant froze (didn't think it would do that until like -35) and popped out a little plug on top of the throttle body. Can I just tap this back in? Is it a safety feature to prevent cracking in the coolant system?

What do you know about your coolant? Have you changed it and if so, with what?

Last time it was changed a mechanic did it when he changed the timing belt. Went ahead and did the water pump. I assume he used proper mixed toyota red stuff but not sure. Didn't happen last year during the same Temps. Maybe it just lost its anti freezing properties. Was changed in 2017.

Went ahead and tapped it back in. Pretty firm in there. Just ran the engine with distilled water til it hit 220 and shut it down. No leaks that I could find. Gonna let it cool, drain and flush with fresh distilled. Then tomorrow get some coolant from toyota.
