Lost subwoofer with new receiver

Hi All,
I have a 2005 4Runner with the JBL Synthesis system. I just installed a JVC AXV810 receiver using the PAC model TATO wire harness. Everything seems to be working fine. Sound is coming from all speakers. There's some muffled sound coming from the subwoofer, no clean bass. Overall sound quality is definitely worse than stock unit.
What happened to my subwoofer and how do I get it to work again?
Also, the illumination does not work. I see a "illum" wire on the back of the receiver but it's not connected to anything on the wire harness.
Is there a better harness out there than the PAC model TATO harness?
Anyone know which wire to splice to get the sub working again?

Metra harness is the way to go. I've Pioneer unit with JBL setup that works flawlessly.

I have a Pioneer Premier DEH-P510UB with the TATO Harness myself; everything works perfectly.

As for splicing wires, I never had to splice any, except the power and the ground leading to the receiver itself.

There are several things you can try; I've experimented with them all.

You can try hitting the dip switches on the side of the TATO (looks like 8 white stubs in a row), push the first one down, on the left side. That increases the output of the unit by 1dB. You can push down 2 more to make a total of 3dB, but that is as far as you go.

If you still have your old receiver, you might have changed the Bass, Midrange, or Treble toggles in the Toyota receiver. If you change them all back to 0, that may solve your problem.

I think I did change the bass/treble setting on the old HU. I guess I'll reinstall the old HU and reset everything back to "0" and see if it does anything. If not I'll try the Metra harness.
