Love these heated mirrors

ive had them before but still amazes me how great they work. the other morning my car was frozen solid, but the mirrors were cleared in a matter of seconds.

my understanding is the SE come with heated mirrors standard. click your rear defrost and see what happens when they are fogged up.

I was not aware of that...as soon as there is some proper cold and moisture in the Denver area (practically a desert in my opinion) I will be able to give it a try...
 
I added the heated mirrors to my SR5. I got them from A/V1 for cheap. Installing them was very easy. I believe the cheapest way to get them is buying factory parts, but if you want the signals added buy the Muth heated signal mirrors. I haven't used them yet, so I don't yet know the awesomeness.
 
I've been searching for another thread on the heated mirrors. I've got an '04 SR5 and want to get them installed sometime. My main concern is the wiring issue. Do the SR5's have a pre-wired harness in the door for these or am I S.O.L. if I want the heated mirrors?

Any info would be great, so far I've only seen mention of it on the SE and Limiteds.

You probably have the prewiring. Since the search function is not working well, use Google and specify that it search only this site.

I did the factory heated mirror install on my SR5, and yes we have the pre-wired connection. However, you need to splice into the two unused wires to power the heater elements. There are two connectors on the back of the mirror glass for the heating element. Run two wires from the mirror connectors through the mirror housing like the other power mirror wires. Find the two unused wires on the connector in the door. Cut the wires about 1.5" back from it and splice in the new wires from the mirror. Before you wrap everything up, turn on the rear defrost and feel the mirror glass to see if its warm.

Before anyone bothers with the "This Post Is Worthless Without Pics" post, I don't have pics because my camera is out of service. If you need instructions on the removal of anything, check on Burtman Industries website for the Muth heated signal mirrors installation instructions. It will get you to the point where you tap the power mirror connector in the door. PM me if you have other questions. Good luck.

I still cant figure out what Subaru is the only manufacturer that does this! Especially in New England, that little stip would make driving so much easier.

I love my heated mirrors...one of the best features on the truck!

Or a heated windshield (at least with the little defroster wires in it) like a Range Rover Sport - I would appreciate that...once there is some moisture in the Denver area...

Thanks a bunch Simon! I am gonna write this down and hopefully when the weather clears I can get this project under way. I'm glad to hear that this is definitely doable on the SR5. I haven't spliced any wires on my vehicles before but will check into the best ways to accomplish that. I've messed with other electronics though and spliced yard lighting and so forth.

Again, thanks for the info I can definitely use it! It's good to know I can do this as my mirrors are almost always covered in cold raid drops/fog/mist.
 
Instead of splicing the wires you can also get wire taps from any hardware store. It might be better, and more straight-forward than splicing.
