Hey guys, I have been having a low idle issue with my 4Runner when started in cold weather when the engine is cold. Its sitting around 900-1000rpms when cold. Does this sound like the Intake air temperature sensor? It starts and idles normal like 1500rpm once the engine has been ran for a little or whenever it is warmer?

Your stated idle rpms don't look normal at all. Normal is about 1500rpm cold, 650-700rpm normal operating temperature.
First check you IAC for carbon buildup and clean it. It sounds like your IAC valve is sticking

I'm slightly confused by what you mean. The rpms will stay higher (1500 or so) until your temperature is at or close to normal temperature (temp needle centered) Rpm may even drop once a temperature is registered/ the needle starts to move closer to center
When are you seeing the 900 rpm?
Have you pulled off your intake tubing and visually checked how well the butterfly valve lines up inside the throttle body?

I'm not quite sure what you are trying to say. When are you at 1500 rpm? When are you at 900? It's normal to see higher rpm until you're at normal operating temperature (needle centered)

bumping this ILO of starting a new thread. I'm experiencing random low idle on cold starts that strictly seem to be based on external temps, (we all know it's cold), but it's seemingly intermittant.
Some cold mornings, I'll start the truck and it will turn over fine, but idle at around 900 RPMs. Those days, if I give it 30 seconds or so, give it a little gas to rev the RPM's up, it will seem to idle normally around 1300-1500 until it's warm.
Other days it'll fire right up and idle normally as it should, even though it's just as cold as it was the random day before.
I had IAC in my head before I did some searching, and here I am bumping this old thread with hypothetically the same solution.
I'm thinking time to clean the IAC....anybody else in the same boat? I replaced my IAC in 2015 with an off-brand ebay IAC and things have been A-OK for the past 3.5 years....it's just this cold weather now that the morning drive cold start idle varies.

If you have the $$$, buy a new OEM one and your ills will probably be over. I am curious if it returns to normal when the temps rise in the next coming days.

Maf is clean, well 5k miles ago clean. I’ll keep you posted once I replace it. Thanks!
