Low Tire Pressure Warning Light On/Off

My Low Tire Pressure Warning Light seems to be coming on and eventually going off, eratically. Its happened while traversing many altitudes going to ski resorts in Colorado but it only started about a month ago.

Does anyone know what sets this light off? Will too much tire pressure set it off? What about quick changes in tire pressure due to changing altitude on mountain roads?

I checked tire pressure, and checked to be sure no one ripped off my spare, , and all looks right but light remains...

I would check the pressure in all of your wheels. It might be a "fall below point" that triggers the light. A small flucation is normal. Altitude and temp will cause air pressure to vary. If all the tires are with-in the range listed in the owners manual I would take it in because your sensor might be faulty.

We had 2 cold(for April) nights here last week and each morning the low pressure indicator light was on for the first 2 or 3 miles. I checked the tires the other day and 3 of them had exactly 32psi and 1 had 31psi. I suspect a problem with mine but will have to wait until next winter now to confirm.

maybe the tire pressure sensor is calibrated to sea level psi of 14.7 or 29.92 Hg and any other altitude having a greater differential pressure reading will set it off...

check the NTSB site for TSB's. I thought I saw one on the tire pressure warning light????

You can't "reset" the TPMS light, either one or more of your tire/s are low on air or the battery/s in the sensors have died, in which case you need new sensors since you can't replace the batteries.

You can also "by-pass" the system entirely so it doesn't work any more and the light stays off, search the forum if you chose to do this for a "How-to".

Same here... light has been on for years too. I've got the parts/instructions to install the bypass switch but haven't got around to it yet.
