Low tire pressure warning

I know this has been discussed a lot, but searching through the threads didn't help me much...

My low tire pressure light has been on for several weeks now. All the tires seem to be ok, but I can't get it to go out. To make matters worse, I recently ran over a nail, and since the light had been "crying wolf", I didn't notice for a while. Anyway, the tire is fixed and I have 35 lbs in all 5 tires, but the light is still on. I took it to the dealership yesterday, and they could not get it to go out either. He said he hooked into the system and it said everything is OK, so we can't figure out why the light is still on.

My tires are the stock Dunflops, and the only thing I've done is had the flat fixed. Does anyone have any idea what's going on here???

Tell them to fix it (it should still be under the 3/36 warranty).

My guess is it could be a faulty sensor in one of the tires - running diagnostics will tell you if the system is faulty but if a sensor is giving a false reading that will just appear as a low tire warning - I would get them to swap out the sensors, one by one if necessary to nail it down.

Have them swap out the rims/tires with another 4runner and then reprogram them for your truck. If that gets the light off, then it must have been a faulty sensor in one of the other rims/tires. Let them figure out which one it was as its a warranty issue.

I guess that is what I'll have to do. I'm at 25k miles, so I sure hope I can get all the bugs worked out before my warranty expires.

Maybe I can convince them it's the tires and get them to give me Revos

I know this was a while back, but I just thought I'd give an update in case someone else has this problem...

After many hours of scratching their heads, the guys at the dealership finally got the light out. The computer diagnostics did not show any faulty sensors. From what I understand, they had to reset or re-enter all the codes in the computer, and that finally got the light out. So after two dealerships and 2-3 months of driving with it on, I finally don't have to stare at that light anymore!

Now that it is fixed, I would test it. Air down each tire below 32 psi one at a time, check for the light (should be instantaneous) and reinflate before moving on to the next one. That way you can confirm that the dealer did it right if it was that difficult for them.

You'll need to deflate to about 28psi for it to register (light on).

Sorry for the late reply, I was out of town. I'll try to remember to take a picture of it this afternoon. The light has come back on and is now flashing, so I shouldn't need to worry with letting air out to get it to come on
Guess I get to spend another Saturday at the Toyota dealership...

If the light is flashing that means a fault in the system rather than low pressure - it sounds like you have a bad sensor somewhere among the 5 based on your previous experience.

Yeah, I saw that in the manual. This is the first time it has flashed like this, so maybe now the guys at the dealership will start checking the sensors instead of just tooling around with the diagnostics and believing what the computer says.
