Lower ball join inspection

I searched. I even Googled. I even checked the Haynes manual. I can't find info on the lower ball joints on the 4WD. It specifically mentions 2WD, but that doesn't help me :(. I've got about 1/2 inch of up/down movement in the ball join when lifted at the control arm. Is there a spec for this? No movement at all? a little is okay?

What year is your 4Runner?How many miles are on it?
The limits have to be in the factory repair manual and it can be different for different makes or models.

Should of thought of that one huh?! 1988 22RE unknown miles but around 180K DLX model

Guess I'll have to change em. I checked again, with better light. It's only about a 1/4 inch. Guess I shouldn't have jumped it huh? gotta wait a week or so for paycheck though :( Thanks for the help
